That's the entire problem, right there, isn't it? It's not that you don't know about the foods, it's that your parents are squawking about paying more for "just dog food." Only thing I can suggest is to point out that eating better foods means dogs don't get sick as often.

Sort of. I am not to the point with myself that I trust my judgement %100. Plus, the parents, it has to be afordable for the parents. So mostly Ron, yes - parent-friendly price for the best food I can get.......I've tried the whole 'they'll get sick less' but we've striked out lucky with our dogs - they never get sick **FINGERS CROSSED**

Good luck with whatever you and your family decide is best.

There is "not sick" and there is really healthy.  Huge difference IMHO.

With most of the higher priced foods, MOST, but not all, because some are just K&B or slightly better, with a huge price tag, you will feed LESS so your cost per meal is equal to or less than what you were feeding.  If a product lists KCALS on the label, it's likely one of the better foods.  The crappy ones don't bother.

I'm not so sure Diamond is a cost-effective food, though. Diamond naturals Beef is only 338 kcal/cup, which is really low for a kibble. At $0.75 per pound it LOOKS economical. But many far better kibbles cost around $1.50 a pound and have many more kcal/cup.
