Just when you think the search is over.........

Many of you know that I have had to search for a kibble for Bugsy that doesn't contain chicken, turkey or egg (any aspect of those) but is high in protein and kcal dense.  So back in August a local small dog bakery got their hands on Orjen Fish.  Far and away this is the best food I have fed him and my search was over.

Well until the supply of Orjen Fish has dried up.  Sad I had been waiting for Orjen to get to NC and had been following online that there were supply issues with the fish but wasn't overly concerned.   Well I am now.  She cannot get the 30lb bags at all.  I will have to buy smaller bags which will increase the price, which is already pretty darn high.  And she said the worst supply issues will hit in winter.

Guys and gals this one of a very few foods he can tolerate - I have tried so many foods and this is THE one. Fingers crossed we don't lose access to it...............  I really don't want to start searching again

    Rant over

Oh noes, Bugsy's tummy does not need any upsetting !!!

What about ordering it online ? That's what I do with Wellness Core.

Petfooddirect has the Orijen you want (http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/petproducts.asp?mscssid=RPULEXM80V8R9G0545RUCAM3LEU22HBF). They do not offer free shipping but they e-mail 22% off coupons about once a month and have sales often. In my case, the coupon combined with the sales covered the shipping when I ordered two bags at a time.

Thanks Thalie - I am going to see how much she (local shop) is charging for the 15.7 lb bag and try and figure out the best price. I have seen a couple of places online with the large bag but it is over $80 a bag shippedIndifferent

It not his belly - he gets hives and various other issues.  I have tried Wellness Core and he can eat that but needs much more of it.  He is doing sooooooooooooo well on the Orjen - from ears to toes to his no longer bright pink chest LOL

And he needs much less of this food (in kcals than any other we have tried), it is clear his body processes it better than anything else we've tried.  My real fear is that it won't be obtainable at all...............

Ha ha I'm panicking about dog food - it's a sad life LOL

Thank you - there are a few others - Canidae has some new ones, Barking at the Moon (been there done that), and I recall others.  I just don't want to have to start the process all over.  He's three and this is the first food that really worked for him.

Can Bugsy eat venison?  The Canine Caviar Venison/Split Pea may be a good option----if I recall correctly, it is a pretty nutrient dense formula.  I think it's around 599 k/cal per cup.

CC has - something - I think - Ben couldn't eat it - maybe egg?

Feeding a Great Big Dog I now really feel your pain!  At that prices - I'm ducking - maybe it's time to consider a full-out home-prepared diet.  Consider what you are paying such premium prices for - fish, meat, potatoes?  Especially since his caloric intake has leveled out some.

What you are paying for a single bag of dog food would almost pay the whole consult fee with Sabine!  Heck, it might, actually.

You are in the unhappy position I was in a year ago with choices dwindling at a ridiculous pace, and spending ever more money on those few choices.  Again, I really feel your pain.

yea I know........... but I can't see how home feeding will be cheaper - I can get some veg very cheap but the meat is a problem.  Pork neck is $1/lb as is beef heart (when I can get it) but nothing else is in range.  I get king mackerel from a friend but due to the mercury I drip feed that. Anyway I think to get up to his required kcals with a balanced diet it will be more than $3 a day. I figure we're at about $1.8-$2/day now.

Good thing I love this beast - LOL

It is amazing how much we, folks who frequent the nutrition forum, love our pets and pay attention to what our pets are eating.  I can't believe how obsessed I have become with reading labels when buying stuff for my lab, niko....no wheat, no glutens, no soy, no by products, no grain based protein sources and etc..and etc.

Yesterday, it occurred to me that I should also read labels when it comes to the food we, the humans, eat.  I decided to read the ingredients of a frozen meal I was eating.... gosh, there are soy protein  and wheat gluten stuff in my meatballs....haha.......... I would have been huffing and puffing if those stuffs were in Niko's food.
