    Canine Nutritionists and Yahoo Lists

This is kind of random, but has anyone ever heard of Catherine Lane?  I always see Monica Segal, Sabine Contreras, and more recently, Dr. Remillard mentioned here.  But I am curious if anyone knows anything about Cat Lane or would recommend her.  She also runs a nutrition group on Yahoo, which I have joined, along with a few others (including K9 Kitchen).

Speaking of which, do any of you have 'favorites' out of the various nutrition lists?  I see K9 Kitchen mentioned a lot, but never any of the others...

I've been a member of her list for a long time, and enjoyed it for quite a while. I don't read it much, any more, due to lack of time. She believes in feeding a gluten free diet, which I agree with, most of the time. I'm feeding premade raw, so.... I don't read my nutrition lists much anymore...

    Thanks for the feedback. Smile

All the lists, resources, and communities have different  philosophies and emphases.  No one will work for every dog.  There's many raw feeding groups on yahoo as well - some are more militant bones-and-meat only feeders, and some follow other philosophies.  I used to be on a Volhard group.  That's yet another method.

Just do your research, read up, and go with what works for you.  You will probably change your thinking - I know very few people who stay with one way of feeding, every single pet they own, forever.  Many people even follow different methods for different pets in their home.

Don't forget by the way (noting the subject line of this thread) that "nutritionist" is a particular title that implies a certain level of specialized training.  I prefer to use the term pet diet expert or planner, to indicate people who have learned to balance pet diets and have the resources to do so (ie, information from NRC and other research, independent research, privately obtained data like nutritional analysis of raw meaty bones, etc).

Thanks.  I'm trying to find just a few good groups, at least to start with, because I can already tell I'm going to have trouble keeping up with all the messages. Stick out tongue I joined the 'rawfeeding' group, but, eh...I've already decided it's not my thing.  I don't think I could or even necessarily would want to do a true prey model diet.  I think my little dog would do best on a simple, balanced homecooked diet, and my larger dog could do either homecooked or raw.  She's very easy.  They both have unique health issues, though, so I am not going to try to feed them the same thing.  Although I do think both of them would benefit from a gluten-free diet.

And I know what you mean, my thinking has already changed a lot in the last few years alone, not just regarding nutrition, but...so many things.  I just need to start somewhere.
