I would like your opinion on EVO food

It looks to me like EVO would be a good food to switch to now that Canidae changed for the worse. There is a warning that it isn't good for large breed puppies due to it's high protein levels. Morrison is now 18 months, do you think he would be at risk for anything?

While we are trying to get Monroe to trim down it is also hard to keep Morrison up to a good weight and I would like something that I can feed both of them. I'll control how much they get but it is just much easier to feed them the same food.

I don't want to spend a fortune on food but it's either spent on good food now or vet bills later, right?

So what do you think of EVO?

Is Morrison full grown? I ask because one of my gsd's hit a growth spurt around TWO. If you are seeing no signs of growth in the past several months, I think it would be pretty safe to go with EVO or any of the low grain/grain free foods. You might want to check on the price of Wilderness by Blue.....I think it's cheaper than EVO, but it does have a bit of oatmeal in it. I'm seriously considering switching my crew to Wilderness before the cold weather causes them to drop weight.

I have never used any of their formulas because of his allergies but would love to have been able to!

In the standard formulas I would worry that the fat content would be too high for Monroe - probably wonderful for Morrison - there is a reduce fat formula which might be the best to feed to BOTH your guys.

Orjen is another food that you may find about the same price with very good composition IMHO

Evo is one that I think is a wonderful food but I'd be reluctant to give to any dog that is still growing, in terms of skeletal growth.. My BCs get a growth spurt around two also but it's muscle/fat depost - they add at least one, sometimes two inches onto their frame all around, and several pounds of weight. But my Maremmas literally continue to grow - growth plates are not fully closed until well into their third year. Evo in particular is not a good food for dogs that are still growing because of the high mineral content. You end up feeding so much toa large dog that the absolute calcium you are exposing them to is well over danger levels.

Orijen makes a puppy food, which would work well for Morrison and would be fine in terms of mineral content. I wouldn't feed it to Monroe though.

When I've got two completely opposite problems, I really consider that a sign to split up food purchases. Monroe, if he has a weight problem, would greatly benefit from the RF of any of the grain frees that offer it. But I've tried RF with some of my high metabolism dogs and they can't eat enough to keep condition on.

I like Wellness Core, too.
