How much raw for a 30lbs. dog?

I think I've finally decided to put kane on raw but I'm uncertain on how much to feed. I plan on purchasing from k9-kraving.com and they suggest about 3-5% body weight dependant on activity level. Kane's activity level is moderate so I'm thinking about a pound a day. Any suggestions from the folks that feed raw and if there's any brands you recommend? Thanks a bunch!

These are what mine close to that weight eat on raw.

    26lbs which is a little smaller 10oz.

31lbs 10oz Sometimes maybe a little bit more, not 10oz exactly but still close to 2% body weight

33lbs one is on 12oz, the other 18oz she is younger, almost a yr and an active dog so she is closer to 3.5% a day while the other is just over 2%

Can't really recommend a brand since I don't go for the premade stuff.

I used the recommendations at rawdogranch.com to get Ben started.  I highly recommend it to any beginners.  Then I ran what I was doing through my spreadsheets and the only major shortages I came up with were zinc, choline, and possibly B because I use kidney rather than liver, to avoid copper overages.

After a while I adjusted what I was doing according to Ben's condition.  He was chunking up on me, so I scaled back on the RMBs and meat.

Ben eats about 11 oz of muscle meat (beef heart) and 14 to 16 oz of raw meaty bones a day (I do a rotation of lamb, pork, goat, and small beef bones).  He also gets about 2 oz of kidney - I use pork because it's a bit higher in B vitamins, which he needs.  He is an active 12.5 year old 45 pound neutered male Border collie.

He does get supplements, tailored to complement his diet.  I took an educated guess at these, but I'll be having a nutrition expert look at this and come up with a more precise match - the balance of little nutrients like iodine and manganese sort of baffle me.

5%?  Wow!  I feed Onyx about 3 percent and she's a gogo dog, meaning she never really stops moving.  Crusher is a tad more laid back and only gets 2.5%.  Do you think thats a breed thing?  Maybe because they'r huskies?  Thier putout is Chi size...but their bodies are perfect and they still have tons of energy.

Maybe the premade has filler in it?  Making you need more per body weight?  Oh!  Are there veggie in the premade?

Psst...this is me and my morning babble..

I can't open k9-kraving.com. A pound of food is a LOT for a dog that size. My non-stop, 4 year old dog eats 3% of her weight. She is 20 lbs and gets 8 oz a day. My puppy eats more, but she's growing, and intact.

I would think after you slowly integrate the raw stuff, I'd build up at a 2% serving and start from there. Watch the poop consistency and the weight.

That is what I was thinking, a lot of food. Mine are fairly active and eat 2-3% depending on the dog and the one who eats about 3.5% is very active, almost like non stop, crazy dog and she is still growing, she just had a bit of a growth spurt not too long ago, I think her growth will slow down now. If they were on 5% they'd probably be tubs.

I am wondering too what is in this mix of premade, because the 2 other premades I looked into didn't require to feed that much. One which I used before recommended 2% of body weight a day (8oz for every 25lbs), give or take a bit for what your dog needs so it'd be similar to what I'm feeding now.

most pre-made raws contain ridiculous amounts of vegetable matter- if it's over 10% non-meat I'd pass.

His activity level is moderate, 20 minute runs, three times a day and a playtime. They sell them in 1/2 pound chubs so I may just do 1/2 pound a day.
