$300 later and other such things...

Well 2 weeks ago, we found out dh will be depolying to afghanistan for 15 months.

I had been feeding sojos and wanted to switch to something easier to feed.  I slowly tried to transition to honest kitchen as a morning meal and wellness core RF for the evening meal.  I am just not going to have the time or energy to continue to cook for the dogs during the upcoming months. (He has about 5 months before he goes).  So anyway, 2 dogs wouldn't touch HK, one ended up with a sick tummy with vomiting and diarrhea.  Vet bill for bloodwork (quite unremarkable), cerenia shot and pills and metronidazole was $300. Ouch.  Poor Lexi.

I decided to stick them all back on PetGuard lifespan (they removed the corn now, yay~) and canned as well as healthy leftovers (typically from our supper meals).   Lexi's stools are finally firmed back up.  Gobie the minpin and Darby the bichon are finishing up the rest of Core and they have some room-clearning gas from it.  Shoo!

Another lesson in: Stick with what works! I guess...

God bless you and your husband for you sacrifice to our safety and freedom!

I've heard good things about Petguard on my Crestie lists and forums.  Even when it had the corn it seemed to work well for the little guys (maybe a skin/stomach thing?).

I hope you can get things together without too much stress and have some time to spend with your man before he leaves the country!

Thanks, Brookcove. We have about 5 months now before he heads out. I fed PetGuard before when it still had corn in it (and menadione) and the dogs did wonderfully on it.  I'm always on some sort of quest to find "better" and generally I end up messing up their poor tummies!  Going to leave well enough alone this time.  :)

I'm really really glad I have my 2 kids (4 and 2yrs), my 3 dogs and my 2 guinea pigs to distract me while he's gone.  Thankfully we're moving home to be near family for that time, so I'll have plenty of help and company too.  Course, I'll still visit the board here too!

Just wanted to offer up a huge thank you for the sacrifices of your husband, you, and your family for offering his service to serve and protect our nation.  It is good that you have your children and your little pups to help pass the time, and being close to the family will also be a big help.

Have a memorable time before his departure!

I hope your pups are regulated prior to the changes as it will make it so much easier.  I have found it is better to stick with what works.

    Take care!

Going to leave well enough alone this time.  :)

I'm sure that's a good idea.  I tend to try to change things up sometimes, then also come to the realization that things were just fine the way they were.

I too am very glad you have your kids (2 & 4 leggers) and that you will moving close to family.  This will help the time go by faster...so your sweetie gets home sooner.  This board will help tremendously too...when you need an escape, come here.  We'll be waiting. Smile

I hope that you two will get some great alone and fun time together many times before he is deployed.

    God bless you and yours.

Thank you so much guys!  Your support means so much to me!  I can not wait for May 2010 for dh's return.  He is my best friend. The best, most beautiful spirit I know.  I just cannot say enough good about him. :)  I just love him so much!

We are thinking we may go to Disney before he heads out.

First, though, I need to get all the critters healthy! I have Lexi (the bichon) whose tummy seems all better now (just leave well enough alone on the PetGuard!) and Diego the guinea pig who is over his eye infection (injury from poking his eye with hay) and now Sprite the guinea pig has a URI and broken top teeth!  They just can't seem to stay out of trouble those two! LOL

I'll keep everyone updated. DH leaves in Feb.

My highest respect to you and your family for your service to our country.

And good luck with whatever you feed. Dogs can have individual needs. One dog can  eat anything under the sun with a cast iron stomach. Another can have an upset if one little thing is changed. That can't be easy.

I heard on the news last night that things are heating up some in A and thought of you all first off.  May 2010, ugh.  My prayers that it will fly by with safety for your husband and with things being uneventful at home.  Smile

Add my thanks for the sacrifices you and your husband are making for all of us. I know the separation will be difficult, but you'll have a great support network here with us plus your furry crew at home.

Big Smile Aww thanks you guys!

i will definitely check in every so often with everyone here.

Typing one handed as Diego the guinea pig is soaking up some momma time with me.  He is such a love. Just kicks back and snoozes for as long as you'll hold him and "pip pip pip pip" (happy noises) the whole time. :)  Good pig!  And dogs on my feet since I'm reclined on the rocker!

I am just glad we still have several months to be together, but every moment is more precious than the last, that's for sure.
