Food vent!! (Not really nutritional but it is food related)

    I've had it!!

I added Healthwise lamb and oatmeal to give Maze some verity with her meals but now she won't eat the EVO red meat. I mixed the two kibble to start with but she cleaned out the Healthwise kibble and left the Evo. And just now I caught her upstairs eating the crap my roommate feeds his dog! Maze can't eat that stuff due to allergies and she's got a full bowl of food!! This is just getting dumb! She refuses to eat the Evo anymore so now I've got a half bag of dog food with nothing to do with it!!! And I can't bribe her to eat it cuz then she'll expect that treatment every time she eats!  I dumped the Evo kibble back in the bag and filled her bowl with the Healthwise but now she's pouting on her bed cuz she got in trouble for eating out of Wolf's dish (which is something I never allowed her to do).

I got mad.. I know I shouldn't have but that just pushed me to far today. I've had a crappy day already and I haven't even left the house.. And now I feel like crying because catching Maze in Wolf's dish just.. I don't know. I'm trying to feed her a good food and I wish I could feed her the food she really wants but I can't! She can't have it! But she's fighting me on this one and I don't know why!! She knows not to eat upstairs and I know she knows cuz as soon as she got caught she slunk to the floor and spit out the kibble in her mouth....

I guess I'll just give the bag of dog food to a friend of ours who feeds the same stuff.. *sigh*  I just don't know why that set me off so bad...It's like I'm spending all this cash on feeding her good food and she doesn't even care.. (I know she's a dog but still!)

Kay venting over.. But I don't feel any better... *sigh* I wish I could just stay in bed...

I know how you feel!  My cat is the same way.  He's so picky about his food and it's hard to get him to eat something healthy for his UTI/crystals problems.  He meows all the time because he's hungry but won't eat the food I put out for him. He wasted so much of my money on his health food that just goes bad in his bowl after I leave it there for a day. That cat can drive me nuts some times.

I hope you don't get too mad at Maze, although she has been a sneaky little girl.

I apologized to her after I calmed down. So I'm forgiven.. I hope.. Lol. But the up side is the food she's in love with is 20$ cheaper then the food she's refusing! Yatta! Lol! Thankfully thou my cat isn't too picky.. He's used to not eat or not knowing where his next meal was coming from (before we got him) so he eats what's in his bowl.

don't feel bad- a lot of the really cheap junky dog foods have wonderful smelling chemicals and sugar added to entice dogs to consume the garbage.

Anyway, it's over-caring owners who create picky dogs. Just feed the dog what you want the dog to eat, and if the dog doesn't eat it, take it away after fifteen minutes. Repeat at the next meal. I assure you the dog will soon learn to eat what is served. And really, there is much good to be gained by adding fresh meats, eggs, canned fish, canned food to kibble. Just make sure you add the stuff BEFORE you offer the food; don't wait for the dog to refuse and then add stuff and re-offer. That's training the dog to refuse to see if anything better might come later.

I do that when I'm offering a new food to start with. But the stuff she's on now, she used to eat when she was a puppy.

When she was smaller thou and we were testing foods against her allergies, she'd go a week without eating before she finally caved. I made sure she didn't lose any weight or anything.

I put her back on Healthwise so it's not ultra junk food and it doesn't break my wallet each month.
