Innova Evo

    Innova Evo

At the suggestion of a few people I bought a bag of this for Neiko and Lily. I had some serious sticker shock though with it being $52 for the largest bag. Indifferent

I'm half way through the bag though and have to say that it's lasting me longer than any other food we've tried. Lily (42 lbs) only gets 1 cup per day (instead of 2 with other brands) and Neiko gets 2 cups per day (instead of 4). I might even cut Neiko back to 1-3/4 cups per day.

Neiko is doing well on it. This has been the only food (besides Total Performance - similar price with delivery) that has enough calories to sustain him. It is giving Lily gas though. I think it's too high in protein for her so I will probably switch her back to Canidae or something similar.

Are you using the regular or the reduced fat formula? I'm going to try my boy with a little of the RF Evo ... he does well on high protein, but not so well on high fat. Whether his system can handle the high ash content is another matter, and I'll be monitoring that.

He's on the regular, not reduced fat. Let me know how it works for you.

Have you tried contacting any of your local vets to see if any of them are nutrition-wise and might carry any of the better quality foods ?? Surprisingly SOME educated vets do. I found a vet in the next county over that carries the largest bags of EVO for $37 !!!!  A good vet will sell at cost with a marginal profit.

You may want to try other grain-free foods but watch the kcals/cup.  Some are extremely low ( under 400 ).  I try to keep around 32% protein MIN and 450-500 kcal/cup MIN.

I hadn't thought of that. Thanks! I have been searching around my area for a nutrition specialist and I think that I found one but I think they only carry the typical prescription diets. I'm going there next week and will see.

Maze gets 1 1/2 cups of the Evo red meat once a day( her choice). It took a few tester bags to find the one that didn't give her gas. I put her on reduced fat to start with then slowly built up her tolerance to get her on the R.M Evo.

I didn't know that some vets carry these brands.. All the vets where I live carry that Science Hills diet.. Some days I wished I lived in the states.. *sigh*

I know where you're coming from, Julie! My boys did great on evo...but honestly it looks like i'll wait until i graduate college and start making some decent money to feed them either evo or orijen. They're also doing fantastic on canidae, and i love the price.
