Hiking foods

we're going to be taking our two dogs on an 8-10 mile hike tomorrow so we were wondering what type of foods are good to take for them since we're going to be active all day.

do you normally feed them during the day? we often go on long hikes and don't bother to bring along food for the dogs; they eat breakfast before we go, and get dinner at night just as on non-hiking days.

I typically just add more to their breakfast and dinner to make up for the added calories. However, I usually have treats with me (in the form of Natural Balance food roll) and feed them that when they come when called from a big distraction and so forth.

The only thing I usually do is since I stop for coffee for me I usually bring something small for her to have too. And, if she's really hungry later I'll give her extra food.

Are your dogs used to hiking so long?

Edited to say--You'll want to make sure you have enough water for everyone too--you probably know that but just thought I'd throw it in.
