    Question on protien in wet food...

    ... I have to puree Snickers food and forcefeed her. I picked up some Merrick canned since my stew is not balanced and only a topper and her kibble is difficult to grind. So, the merrick wet food is 9% protien compared to a 26%-30% i normally feed in dry kibble.. why so low? Is it becuase of the moisture?

    You have to calculate it on a dry matter basis. You can't just compare dry food to wet food.  Here is a good link that explains it:

     Ah, great link. I often wondered about that myself. Makes sense.

      The Merrick is about 47% protein on a DMB.  I know of 2 Hill's canned RX foods that may help; both are high protein & fat, and low carb. The a/d is for dogs or cats recovering from serious illness or are anorexic and the n/d is for dogs with cancer;

      They're designed for dogs with a weak immune system and should  be very palatable.

    The only thing negative about n/d is that it smells like dead fish Ick!
