Kirkland Super Premium Over Beneful

 I've done that too and I feel pretty good about doing so thinking that the dog will get better nutrition.

 
BTW we have two of those dog beds in the rectangle version and they are superb.  We saw the oval ones last time in so I know its the same bed just new shape.

 I bought Kirkland's dog food (the lamb one) for Falon once.  The food smelled like burnt bread and she wouldn't touch it (was well within the expiration date).  My parents also bought a bag of the same formula to try for their dog and they said the same thing. 

 But I did buy that bed you are talking about and it is AWESOME!  They are very good looking and soo darn cheap!
 

 I know folks will be shocked to hear that I have no problem pointing that sort of thing out in public.  I'd never say, "Don't buy a product here, buy one somewhere else" (or not very loudly, anyway ) but I like to point out things like, "Look how much more you get for your money with this food."  Or help them with dogs with possible food sensitivities.

Pfft.... I don't just do it with food.  I do it with all things dog related.  Toys, beds, crates, bowls whatever.  I'm nosy like that.  I'm pretty sure the lady at the pet shop here would hire me if I asked for a job.  I've sold Cuz toys, Kongs, Barking at the Moon....etc for her. 

No need to feel guilty, I mean she was obviously considering other brands besides Purina if she was browsing and commenting already.  It sounds like you helped her make a decision she was already considering and her dog will probably be better off because of it!

The nearest Costco is 45 minutes away, so I don't have a membership.  I wonder if they do the visitor passes?  I MUST get my Sophie one of those beds!  We don't have sales tax in NH, so I don't mind paying the extra for the one day visitor pass (I know at Sam's Club you have to pay 15% more if you aren't a member and are using a pass).  I'm going to give them a call tomorrow!!

Heck - I wish you'd been there when my BF's parents are shopping for food at Costco.  They are convinced that Pedigree is the best for dogs, and their vet told them outright that Kirkland food was "the worst".  Err... um... when is the last time this vet studied dog nutrition and the ingredients in each of these foods??

 I think this is courteous and helpful and I have also shared with others and it seems to be appreciated. With the price of things always going up I would prefer someone stop me if they see me purchasing something that they have had a bad experience with.

I buy the costco cat food to feed the strays that live nearby. I was shocked when I looked at the ingredients and they actually didn't look that bad. I figured crappy food was better then no food for the strays, but the costco had much better ingredients then a lot of cheap foods I could have picked up.

I appreciate it when people say things to me about certain items, so I try to make recomendations if I think I might be helpful.

 Too funny! I was at Costco a couple of weeks ago buying some dog food and a couple was there looking at the ingrediants in the Kirkland. Then after going back and forth on if they should try it or not, the wife finally said that the Beneful was only a couple dollars more than the Kirkland so just get that. It took a lot of self control not to jump into their conversation and give them my two cents. I probably should have but I feel like the dog food police sometimes. I have already convinced my mother in law to stop feeding her dog Ol Roy if I buy her dog's food from Costco for her... even though my husband was pleading with me not to say anything. I am glad to know that other people here like the Kirkland too. We switched our dogs from Eukeneuba to it a couple of months ago after looking at the ingrediants. They look healthier IMO and are doing great on it.

 I will ALWAYS say something if i see someone picking up a crapola bag of pet food.I'de feel guilty if i didnt say anything,and at least i know i've tried to help.

I've switched all of my family onto the holistic foods,after i've finished with them they feel too horrible feeding pedigree et al. I often read on here how people try and sway their family members into feeding better foods and they just get ignored.I couldnt imagine what that would feel like

Experienced the same thing this last Friday.

Went to Sam's club for the bigger shopping...we too got a new dog bed, darn puppy just won't stop growing....hehehehehe!!!

Anyways, while we were back looking at the beds, I must've seen at least 3-4 people load 40# bags of the Pedigree into their carts...one lady even had 3 40# bags of the crap!

Wanted SOOO badly to explain to her that while her dog could eat through 120# of crap in short time, obviously, he'd probably only need 80# or so in the same timeframe of a much healthier food.

I tend to come off a little powerful on the subject, so I've gotten to where I bite my tongue...NOT because I like it however!

Just made me want to cry seeing all of those crappy yellow bags being loaded in cart after cart, and the people actually felt PROUD to have gotten all of the shopping done!

Then again too though, you have to wonder how many of these people truly don't know any better, how many of these people truly believe their vets DO know about nutrition, etc.

My Aunt, for the longest time, believed that Science Diet/Iams were the goldmines of dog food...took me years to convince her otherwise, and it wasn't until her older golden got sick with older age that she decided to truly listen and read the difference in the ingredients....when she TRULY read the ingredients, and realized that SHE herself wouldn't want to eat ground yellow corn, bone tallow, soybean hulls, etc as a daily part of her diet, she opened her eyes pretty widely let me tell you....it was an instant turn around at that point.

She called one day and said *Ok, what do I feed. You tell me, tell me where to get it, and I'm on it*. She was too.

She now has two younger Goldens, beautiful dogs, that have grown up on Candiae and they look gorgeous!

Seeing the many folks who buy Pedigree and Beneful from Costco makes me very sad also. I agree with you that folks don't truly know. 

It is the power of advertising....... When I was young, I remember seeing commercials for Purine/Beneful and thinking that when I got a dog, I will buy him/her that food because of the "great wholesome stuff" in them.  It was not until early 2007 when I got my lab as a puppy that I discovered better products outside Pestmart/Petco.  I wish I could go back and changed what I fed my other lab (who died of kidney failure at barely 10 1/2 years of age in 2003).  At that time I was feeding Petsmart Authority and Nutro.  It makes me cry when I think about it.
