Anyone have access to the 2006 NRC book?

I know Monica Segal's newer book has the adult numbers in it, but actually I'm looking for growth numbers... I'm trying to find out what their recommended daily amount of calcium is for puppies (in grams instead of percent, which is all most sources tell you). Anybody know?

    Yes, I have it...

Puppies need 3 grams, or 3000 mg per 1000kcals consumed. This is the ideal amount.

2000 mg per 1000 kcals is an adequate/ minimum amount and 4500 mg per 1000 kcals is the absolute maximum amount that should be fed.

If you know the puppy's daily energy requirement, you can take that figure, multiply it by this amount in mg and divide it by 1000 to get daily mg required.

For example, a 5.25 lb puppy that will mature at 5.5 lbs needs 268 kcals daily.  268*3000=804,000.   804,000/1000=804.  A 5.25 puppy maturing at 5.5 lbs needs 804 mg  (or .804 grams) calcium daily.

    Hope that helps :)
