If they really are that big of a PITA, meat birds I mean, then I could probably do it.
Oh man, they are so terrible. It's been 2.5 weeks now and I just want them OUT of the house. When you come in, our house smells like a pet store. Not a clean pet store, either. Nothing seems to get rid of it or cover it up. Plus they're loud- they never stop cheeping, even at night. And their dander is making both DH and I sick- chickens make "chicken dust" that settles on everything and DH and I are both having allergy attacks because of them. I've been coughing, and DH has been breaking out in hives and sneezing constantly.
I've never gotten a batch when it was this cold outside, and I never will again. Normally I can move them out into the coop after their first week and a half. Since it's so cold right now, they need to be in for about 3 weeks...so we have almost another full week to go.
I will be SO glad at the end of this week when I can throw their butts outside and scrub their stink out of my house. They're just awful.
Here are the little beasties now- Oh, and notice all of the great stuff they kick onto my floor. Yeah, I get to vaccum that up two or three times a day.

Ugh. I think it's easy to see now why it's so easy to butcher them when the time comes. Right now I'll just be glad when they're OUTSIDE.
But the main reason for dragging this thread back up is to post something cool- the doggies got a PIG last week.
Someone we know had some extra male pigs that they really needed to get rid of...so they killed and brought over one of them for us for FREE! He was about 70 pounds, so that's alot of dog food.
I didn't bother to do a good job of dressing and butchering him and stuff since I had alot planned for that day and wasn't really counting on butchering a pig, so I just cut off the head/legs/hams/shoulders and froze them for the dogs. The body itself I drug way out into the woods and left for Chief to eat. He's been working on it for the past week and he still has a good bit to go.
Okay, now I'm going to post pictures- if dead pigs bother you, or dogs eating parts of whole animals, DON'T LOOK!!
Right after we got him home- I told Chief to "Stay" and he's waiting for the go-ahead.

Butter working on a leg that he stashed somewhere in the woods and dug back up about a day and a half later.
Gross, but he liked it:

I just love feeding this way. I've only been able to do it since June so the novelty still hasn't worn off yet, lol.
