She Got It! She finally got it!!

Lol sorry for the over excitement but I am just so happy that Lizzie is finally doing what I want. She now sits, lays down, comes, and gives me her paw 98.9% of the time. The 'come' usually has to be reinforced with a pat on the leg because she usually looks at me like 'Do you want something?' until I pat my leg then she comes dashing over. Her sit is now perfect and she drops into a down nicely. She came to us naturally wanting to paw at everything so I have been fine tuning it so that she gives us the paw on command.

Now what else can I teach her? Thats as far as I got with Golden because I dont know how to teach a big dog anything else lol. When I had my Shih Tzu I also taught her to beg and roll over but I honestly cannot imagine having a 60 pound dog sitting up to beg!

I will probably start teaching her to roll over but does anyone else have any nifty ideas?

Please incluid a brief description on how to teach that certain behavior because I am clueless on where to start.

Im so glad were finally getting somewhere!!

Good for you. It is so much fun when you manage to teacg something new.
There are dozens of ideas and the sky is the limit.

Do you clicker train? If not, you should look into it - it is great for teaching tricks.

Several ideas for tricks are:

take a bow (dog does a play bow)
figure 8 between legs.
spin left and spun right.
touch - your hand, a target stick..
after touch was taught - you can teach names of objects with it.

Odie had this deal of wanting to jump up on us as a form of greeting. Not a real desirable behavior with any dog, but especially not with a 65 pound dog. We taught him to "be bad" only on that command, and he got it quickly. I would say, "be bad." He would look at me like, WTF? I took his front feet, put them on my shoulders and said, "good be bad." Did that about 6 times, I guess, and he had it.

"Be bad." Pick up his front feet and put them on you. "Good be bad." I got this idea out of a training book I read.

just to let u know collies learn to beg really fast
my collie would beg for treats being she knew it was my favorite trick
she also crawled,played dead,shook paw(left or right)stand,sit,down,balanced a cookie on her nose then flipped it up and caught it when i snapped my fingers and my favorite beg
once they start learning ull most likely run outta tricks
if i can find a picture of my collie begging i will post it
=)

I love to see the tricks where the dog balances a treat on their nose! How would I teach that one?

I taught my not to eat a treat from my hand untill I give the command. I did that first then I was able to put the treat on her nose and then give the command.
