Peyton usually walks nice on a leash. Of course she is a puppy and when she sees someone or something that looks interesting, she'll try and pull. But, I freeze and she sits then we move again. You know the drill. So I've been working with her on heeling, so I'll hold the leash tighter against me so she knows that heeling is right by my leg. However, when I say "heel" she sits right next to me. I know this is not a bad thing, but I do not want her to get "heel" and "sit" confused.
Okay, now for my other question(s). At this point, Peyton knows come, sit, down, paw and the hand signals to go with them. She's also grasping "watch me"...I wish it was a bit better, but she's catching on. In the house, she does not come as regularly as she does outside. Outside, she comes 100% of the time that I call her, in the house it is about 70-80% ESP if she can see me. I can almost read her mind..."I can see you, you can see me, and this piece of string is soooo fun, why do I have to come now?" Is this something that I'm doing or a "puppy mindset" type of thing?
I know she should know stay, but I can't get her to not be with me to work on stay. I almost need my boyfriend to hold her back from running right to me (we haven't really cut the apron strings yet, I guess) and he's not home a lot to help with training. If anyone has any suggestions on that, I am open. The way that the books I have explained it doesn't work because she won't let me move away at all. So we never get to a stay.
Thanks! And if you made it thru...you're amazing!
