    Prong collar technical support :)

    Hello everyone,
I just did the dumbest thing ever.  I don't know how I did it but I can't get my prong collar back together!  All the prongs are attached.  I must have taken the collar off right at the very last prong (next to the prong attached to the chain part of the collar).  This prong looks smaller and has a curved end unlike the other prongs and I don't know how to get it back onto the hook attached to the chain.

Oh man, so hard to explain here and my digital camera is out of batteries!!!  Crying
I tried searching for how to fix the collars online but I can't find anything.  Anyone have any suggestions of what key phrases I should type in?

The other thing is, at the training session, there were too many prongs so we took one out. The trainer took it from me and I don't know where she put it.  I called her and she says she doesn't have it.  Where did it go?  She doesn't know.  Angry

I looked at the pictures online and I have the right piece as all the other collars (the last removeable one looks different from the others so that's a relief) but I just don't know how to get it back on.

I was thinking of going to the petstore where I bought it but the way he showed me how to use it was completely wrong!!!!  Thank God I didn't actually use it on my boy until I got to the trainer's today.

somehow my sister in law did the same thing. We went nuts trying to put it back together. Finally my husband used pliers to open up the curvy parts and put it back together. He then rebent the ends. It hasn't done anything strength wise to the collar and it works fine on her big strong dog. (altho I did hear a few swear words as he tried to get it opened up [sm=lol.gif]...)

We only have one vehicle right now so I asked my brother to take it in to the petstore (not the one where we got it) to see if they knew how to put it together.

Instead, his friend who also has a prong collar, put it back together...

Except this morning, when I looked at the collar, the prong that is a different size and has a different shape on one end, IS attached to the collar and the collar is a whole circle except the prong is sticking out the other way (so all the prongs would be against the dog's neck except for one)!  [:@]  Aargh.

And my trainer still hasn't phoned me back about helping me with it.[>:] (I like these high-tech smilies) [:D]

For those of you who don't want to fight with these collars, JB Wholesale carries one with a snap built in to make it easier to remove.
The traditional prong collars are removed by squeezing together a link (at the hook end) and detaching it from the link next to it.  Reverse the process to get it back together.  Because this is hard to do, people tend to pull the collar over the dog's head, risking injury to the eye, and making it almost a certainty that the collar is not properly fitted to the dog.
