New Agility Trainer

    New Agility Trainer

I'm excited. We had our first private agility lesson with a new club yesterday. Due to time constraints we couldn't work out into one of there scheduled classes. The trainer is very interesting. We did not do alot of agility, but she was interested in our goals, what we considered our weaknesses, etc. She also picked right up on Belle's "laid back" attitude and said "this can be changed". We have been hoping for that. Now I know how much she can change is relative but to have someone say we don't have to just accept her this way and we can help her is wonderful.

My Belle is a happy energetic strong enthusiastic dog at home or at family homes. When we take her to a class or an event she becomes an introvert so hear we might be able to pull her out of her shell was encouraging. By the end of the lesson Belle was perked up. There is hope! I want "the world" to see her as I see her. Her nick name is Eyore but I know she can be the Tasmanian Devil.

I like not having my dog discounted for once. I wanted to share.

That's great! I've never taken private lessond for dog stuff - but I remember how good it felt when I found a great horse trainer to take lessons from!

Sounds like you have found a great trainer! Taking privates can be fun. It gives you great one on one time with a trainer and I think the trainer can get a better "read" on your dog. I mainly take classes with a group but will occasionally take a private with my trainer to get some tuning up. [:)]

    Hey Jenhuedepohl and Dasher,

I have horses too (I used to have a Casey too). I am more accustomed to privates with my horses too, but that is why I thought to ask if I could work something out with my dog.

I find it very interesting that there is a fine line between dog people and horse people.

That's great news! There was a really introverted border collie (of all things!) at my agility class........ maybe not quite the same, this dog was introverted and also fearful. In any case, by taking things slow and easy, and using his favorite toys as rewards after an obstacle, the owner was able to get the dog revved up and excited.

Thanks for your encouraging words too. Belle is not "afraid" at least I don't think so. She just withdraws into herself in stressful situations.

That is the direction our trainer is suggesting. Rewards, alot when she shows signs of withdrawing. It's hard because at home she doesn't withdraw. We need events to come our way.
