    2 on, 2 off

Question for all of you who trained 2on-2off...what's the best training method to show your dog you want them to hold the 2on-2off until you say "OK". I want to be able to get a good lead out so I can keep up with her!

My other problem - she's too small/fast to be able to hold a 2on-2off at the bottom of the A-frame because of the angle/gravity, I guess. Right now we do a running contact, but I would like a 2on-2off at the A-frame too. Does anyone else have this problem?

Not sure if I'm getting what you're asking but here goes:

Our trainer first teaches her dogs to 'touch' an object on the ground (eg. a plastic disc). She trains them to continue touching it over and over (looks like head bobbing) until she gives the release word.

Then she puts the plastic disc at the bottom of the A frame, just far enough that they have their two feet off and two on. As soon as they come to the bottom of the frame, she says 'touch!' and they bob at the disc until she releases them.

I trained Sioux by having her "hit it", and staying a second longer each time before she got her C/T.  I also use her "wait" command to momentarily stop her & it works pretty well for us, but if I tried that with Sequoyah, she'd be halfway to the next obstacle before it came out of my mouth.  Oddly, she doesn't miss contacts on the A-frame.  My problem is getting her to walk over the dog-eating cracks on the dog walk! [:D]
