Pad-Tough

Has anyone used this product? It's in spray form. The directions say to spray it on the pads liberally prior to events and routinely to toughen pads. Then it promptly states a warning saying for external use only harmful if swallowed. Aviod contact with eyes and keep out of reach of children.
Is it harmful then if my dog licks his paws after application?
My flyball dog frequently tears his pads so I'm trying to help him out. He has skid boots which stopped him from ripping his carpal pads..but he still runs his regular foot pads down or tears them. I used this product on him last night at practice..I put it on just before we started so he wa more interested in playing ball than licking his feet, that worked fine..but what about using it routinely to toughen them...I'm afraid if he isn't distracted he will lick it.
Anyone have any natural remedies for this issue that really work? Something I can add to his diet to help toughen his pads?

I believe that the product Tough foot is the way to go. Just put some on before bed time. It smells but it works great. You can find it on line mostly like fosters and smith, cabelas etc

I think this might be kind of the opposite of your problem, but Cassidy's paws tend to get dry and cracked, so I try to put some sort of cream on them, usually Vaseline. I don't think it helps to toughen them up, but it keeps them more flexible, maybe, so they don't crack up. That's a good question about the dog licking its paws, but I don't have an answer. Cassidy always licks her paws after I put something on them, and I don't think the Vaseline is very good for her, but I don't think it's that harmful either.

Thanks guys..I have Pad Tough and I've been putting it on. His pads actually look great..they aren't dry or cracked and don't feel too soft...they just don't hold up to his screeching stops and peel outs. I appreciate the thoughts and advice =)

Yeah, Ziggy gets really dry, they're real tough for some reason (he was stray, adopted him from the shelter, dont ask.). I don't know about cracked though.
