    Dock diving in Ohio

I have a lab pup and am interested in dock diving. He doesn't seem too thrilled with water yet, but he hasn't had a ton of exposure to it. He'll jump off the boat ramp with joy to splash around at the local pond. Are there any groups in Ohio that do this?

    Hello!

I am from Michigan and up until recently we were very active participants in dock jumping. The are several organizations you can look into. In Michigan we have Ultimate Air Dogs, they put on competitions all around Michigan and are branching out too. They were at the VanWert Fair in OH just a few weeks ago. As far as whether or not your dog will jump? That all depends on the dog but most don't their first time. Dock jumping takes a lot of confidence. If your dog loves to swim it is a big encourager. Also if they are toy driven. The nice thing is at these events it about dogs having fun not who can jump the farthest. They people are great and will help you with all your questions.

My golden retriever "Maxine" has a novice title in both Ultimate Air and Dock Dogs - Regional. Her personal best is 6'6", she started at the age of 9. She jumped for about a year, but mostly because my other dog did this. Belle my lab is why we got started. She has a big jump in her, her personal best is 17'11", but she has developed confidence issues and her jumps got smaller and smaller until eventually she would not jump in competition. She jumps in practice only. So we will keep it at my in-laws up north or at our local dock for fun. No more competitons. Belle has an Ultimate Air Dog Senior Title.

    Good Luck and Have Fun

I just love the sport. There is no place around here, in the middle of the desert, that has an event like that. Infact i don't think my dog has been in anything deeper then two feet of water. Anyway, I always love to see a good photo of a dock diver in action.
