Dogs doing what they were bred to do ...

I wasn't sure where to start this thread, but this seemed like a good place.

I have Collies and ensure that all are herding instinct tested and that our bloodline/family of dogs retain this instinct.  We just got back from a herding instict test today and all three of my girls passed with flying colors.  Sadly, I can't provide them with daily exposure to livestock, but its so amazing to see that natural instinct in action.

Who has a dog that does what it was bred to do?  If so, what does it do?

I raise and train Beagles for hunting and field trialing. Several of my dogs have placed in the field and on the bench. My male took best in show at a Nation Beagle event when he was barely a year old and one of his offspring bitches has also won a 1st in her class in the show. Both of these dogs also compete in the field and have placed (with points), but are also excellant HUNTING dogs! Although, I personally don't "hunt", they are used for "bring the rabbit to the gun" by some of my rabbit hunter friends. Of course, they enjoy the spoils of their hard work.

I am also a licensed AKC field trial judge and really love to see (and hear) a good pack of beagles on the line.

Both badsenjis are ASFA field Champions.  One is also an AKC field champion.  The brindlewonderkid has one rabbit kill notch in his collar.  (I don't hunt my dogs, but sometimes there are rabbits in the dog yard.  Sometimes they are outside the dog yard and run into the dog yard when dogs are in the yard.  Obviously those need to be removed from the gene pool anyway.[&:])   My first basenji, a r/w female, had many rabbit and mice kills to her name, but she wouldn't course.  I guess she didn't want roasted plastic bag for dinner .  The malinois has not been herding tested, but the badsenjis have.[8|]
