What do you put in a Kong??

I've been wanting to post this for awhile but just never did.

I've been thinking since Willow is now eating so well (knock on wood) that I would maybe change things up a bit and put one meal in a Kong for her.  Is that possible, she eats mostly canned food.  I just haven't had much experience with them.

I only have one client who uses them and I have no idea what's in them just that I give them to the dogs.

Any ideas or opinions would be great.

PS---Do any of you have dogs that don't like rubber type toys but will still use the Kong??

All sorts of stuff.  Most often I put Nature's Variety Raw Medallions.  I soften them for 10 sec. in the microwave so I can squish them in. I've also put canned food in it and then froze it.  3 hours later you have a very challenging treat.

Some other people use peanut butter or hard buscuits.  My friend Silly Sally uses frozen pumkin, I believe.

One thing though, these options work great if you have a dish washer.  If you don't, the Kong becomes very smelly as it's very hard to rinse the stuff out.  I now use a hollow bone instead of the Kong because it's cheaper to throw out.

Yeah, I mix a little pumpkin with her kibble and freeze it.

I put everything and anything in them.....either canned food, frozen food that's thawed out, pumpkin, yogurt, cut up apples, applesauce, baby food, kibble, cut up puperoni, the Kong peanut butter squeeze thing, anything to make it interesting.  I always freeze mine, as it makes the kong last longer.  There is always at least one or two filled frozen kongs in my freezers (the small ones) as a treat.  If I am headed out for the day, I will fill a larger one with all of Winston's food and freeze it, and not feed him until I leave, so he is so consumed with the Kong, that he doesn't realize I have left the building!

My dogs aren't big fans of rubber toys, but they love their Kongs. I put meals in them, and freeze them.

The meals can be homecooked, canned, or kibble mixed with stuff. They don't care. It's fun to work for your food:)

I've also done yogurt and pumpkin Kongs, but not often. Meals are the easiest, for me. My dogs don't need a whole lot of treats.

I mainly put peanut butter or EZ cheez. I also like to freeze yogurt in it. Wyatt is the kong man, and his favorite is when i put PB in the top, then some of Kaiser's dog food, some cheese, some Pup corn, and a little dog biscuit sticking out. He's started bringing his kong to me when i put on my shoes...LOL

My older dog would not touch a Kong or any other rubber chew toy.  When I got my puppy, I would fill the Kong with peanut butter, then my older dog wanted it also.  So they each got one with peanut butter then I found the Kong filler from a can. All of those were very high in fat and my older one gained alot of weight.  The vet recommended sugar free applesauce.  I didn't think about freezing it.
Neither one of my dogs  will chew or play with the rubber or latex toys.  The only one is the Kong filled with food.
