    Precise Brand Dog Food

Peppermint is a 2 year old Samoyed.  I have been feeding her Precise chicken meal & rice.  I cannot find anyone except me that uses this food.  She seems to be  doing fine with it, but I would just like to hear some other opinions about it.

Also, on Wednesday we are welcoming into our home a 13 week old Sammy.  The breeder has her on Purina One (yuck).  I want to switch her over to the Precise puppy food, but I am not sure if the same rule applies to puppies and switching foods as it does adult dog food.  HELP!

    Thanks in advance!

We can get Precise through our distributor but decided not to for a few reasons:
-Most of their foods are on the same level as Nutro or Science Diet
-Eagle Pack's regular formulas and Canidae cover the same price range and have better ingredients
-Several of the formulas are fairly grain heavy
-It measures out to only 4 cups per pound

It's not a bad food, and I think feeding it is fine. Precise just doesn't really offer more value than other products on the market that are priced more competitively.

Where to are the most likely places that I am going to find the better dog/puppy foods?  We have an independent pet supply store (that's where I got the Precise - there next step down is the Royal Canin), Petsmart, and a feed store that sells dog products (I am going there today to see what they have).

    Thanks for the information.

We fed Precise for a short time a few years back. I don't remember what formula I think it was a dark green bag at that time. They did okay on it but Roscoe got very owly and grouchy. In hindsight I think the protien may have been too high. We feed Eagle and are extremely happy with it. Their products are excellent for the price and customer service is exceptional.

If your sammy is doing well on it, there really is no reason to switch just because there are so-called "better" foods out there.
I fed Precise for a time, it was a good 8 years ago and my minpin did just fine on it. It's not available in my area.
Currently I feed PetGuard Lifespan which they do really well on.  It's a holistic, super anti-oxidant formula and they really do seem to do exceptionally well on it.

To help you keep track of foods you feed and try and how the dog(s) do on them, get a little notebook for each dog. Then you can record the results and whether you would feed it again or include it in your rotation (if you choose to rotate every few months).

I agree with shamrock, and would not change foods on peppermint if she's doing fine on Precise.

Thanks for the advice.  Peppermint does do well on it.  I went into our independent store and found that he has all of the other top foods, but after thinking about it and doing a little more research this morning, I decided to keep her on it as well as get the puppy version for Cookie.  We will see how she does on it.

    Again, thanks everyone!
