    Veggie treats

Someone mentioned in an earlier posting that when putting their dog in the crate/pen for the day when going to work they put in some veggies for the dog to have to snack on during the day. What type of veggies are appropriate to give a dog in his crate unsupervised for the day?
    Thanks

I have no idea. I've never owned a dog that would eat veggies of any kind. I know some dogs enjoy crunching on carrots, but I would think that might pose a minor choking risk, perhaps best to feed only under supervision? Most dogs just sleep all day anyway; do they really need snacks?

My dog will eat any Veggie! (His favorite is squash, beans and carrots) I think that he just likes it because that is what we eat!  But I don't think that I would leave the veggies for him unattended.

My two love veggies, and I always have a good bit of fresh veggies in the house since I have to feed four guinea pigs. So Brown and Grey usually get a carrot or whatever veggie I'm chopping up as a treat.  I wouldn't give anything unsupervised though, since some, like stringy celery (for example), can be a choking hazard.

I leave Slick with a dehydrated Yam every day in his crate.  Or some baby carrots in his Kong.  That's about it for crate snacks at my house.   Just about every evening though, he gets a LARGE organic carrot to chew on/eat.  He's not allowed to have rawhide and I don't have any rec bones at the moment.

My dogs love veggies too.  I put carrots in the freezer and then give them that way.  It takes them a little longer to eat and they seem to like it.  I even give them the big stems from broccoli and they love those too.  I read somewhere that these can help clean the teeth, but not sure if that's true.

The frozen veggie idea is a great one.  maybe try canned pumpkin frozen into his kong toy.

My Chinese crested will eat almost any veggie or fruit.  Then again, I'm not 100% convinced she's actually a dog.  I'm positive she doesn't think so . . .

Talus loves carrots, zuccinni, brocolli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, and celery...these are part of his every day meal...
If you want to leave something for your crated dog, do the carrots in the kong thing...
