my pup is starving!!!

    my pup is starving!!!

I don't know if i should be feeding my pup more, or what! According to the innova bag, i should be giving him 5-6 cups a day. I give him 2 meals a day, 3 cups each meal. Whenever i feed him, he eats every bit and then goes and looks for more food. It's a constant thing. He's always trying to get my other dog's food, sniffing around in the kitchen, and trying to get in the dog food closet. The thing that concerns me is that he's really not that lean...i guess he's not fat though. Should i be feeding him more, or is he just a pig?

How old is he?  Some dogs are just drama queens and act like they are starving 24/7.  My dog will eat an entire bag if you let him.  I am currently struggling to get him to lose a few pounds.  If his body shape indicates that he is not too skinny I would keep feeding the same amount.  Maybe feeding 3 meals of 2 cups a day will help.

He's 6 months old. He's definitely  not skinny...i actually am afraid he's not lean enough for a ridgeback his age...here's a body shot:

Thats one heck of a lot of kcals.  I would say he's getting enough.  If he's going through a growth spurt, he *might* need a bit more, but I'd not increase by much or you're gonna have a FAT pup on your hands.

If this is the pic of the pup in question, he looks fine to me. No ribs are showing. My Pit eats his food and his sisters food also. They will eat and eat. Best to only supply what is called for, otherwise you will end up with an obese dog. There are too many of those around. People just keep feeding them, think they are still hungry. I think most dogs always forage for more.
Keep him on the recommended supply.
I work at a Vet hospital and the obesity rate is climbing higher because owners keep feeding them more. Make sure there is enough protein content in the food you feed him. Make sure he is getting puppy food and not adult food. He needs the extra protein.

Romeo, is the same way.  I feed him twice a day, but around 8 o'clock at night he acts as if he were starving, out come a recreational bone, he gnaws at it for a while and when "satisfied" he leaves it alone and problem solved.

He looks like he's at a good weight, I wouldn't worry too much. Some dogs have huge appetites.

My 3 dogs all could eat until they explode. They do their best to convince me they're still starving.  But If I were to give them any more than their 1/2 - 1 cup per day I'd have toads.

Bailey eats her food so fast its like she hasnt eaten in a week.  Then she will even go to Minnies bowl and Minnie doesnt care so they will both be eating Minnies food at the same time, so I have to stand there and wait until Minnie is done to make sure Bailey doesnt get it.  While I am fixing her food its like torture for her to wait there.  I think some dogs just do this, because I know shes getting enough.  I think you just have a little piggy like a lot of us do, and wouldnt give any more than recommended... especially because his weight doesnt look to thin.

He does look like he's at a healthy weight. I agree with the advice given above to not give him more food than recommended. Giving him a bone to chew on is a really good idea also!

I'm having the opposite problem here. I have to worry about getting my dog to eat enough and that can be really frustrating. In a way I think I'd rather have a dog that wanted to eat too much. You can always limit their food, but you can't MAKE a dog eat. It would make me feel bad though to have a dog always acting like they were sooo hungry.
