    dog food questions...

I was just wondering how old my pup needs to be before i start feeding him adult formula? I've always heard 6 months, 1 year, and even 2 years. I took Kaiser off at about 8 months, and he is still pretty thin (he's now 1.5 years) Also, i was wondering if i really need to be feeding large breed adult formula vs. adult formula. I switched Kaiser from canidae to innova large breed, and it was 24.99, whereas regular adult was 21.99...thought that was strange. When i read the ingredients, the only thing i really noticed is that the large breed had glucosamine, which he already takes.

Ridge, I would say if the Large breed has glucos in it and he is already getting that, then I would go with the regular adult stuff since he is being supplemented already. I would hold off until he is at least a year before giving him the adult food. Bigger dogs need that extra pup food as oposed to smaller dogs.
    That is my opinion.
    Wish you luck.

I wean pups right onto Innova adult.  I also homecook so my vet recommends the LBP formula for pups going to homes that wont homecook.

Since you are already supplementing, I'd just go with the regular adult formula....there really isn't enough IN the LB formula to justify the price.

Per my vet's instructions, I fed Shadow puppy formula until 2 years of age, at which time I switched to Adult.

Glenda that is a different aproach from what I've heard before, I never really knew the difference between puppy and adult food anyways.
The breeder I got Rory from said to keep her on puppy until she hit 1 year to ensure beefier muscles, and healthy joints although he didnt tell me why the puppy food would address that issue. Anywho she was on Trader Joe's puppy food until she was about a year!

Mordanna shared that belief.  As much dog food research as that woman has done, I do trust her opinions.

I also asked the folks at natura and they sent me the conversion chart on how to feed a pup adult formula innova and achieve the desired results.  Innova puppy costs MORE than adult so if they were going to steer me wrong, I'd think it'd be more in the direction of the costlier product.

And Innova has excellent customer service from what I've seen, which is another plus for them.
