My dog was sprayed by a skunk!! AHHHH!!

I watch this board all the time but never registered or posted. But I had a great tip so I felt it necessary. I have a 5 year old golden retriever named Duke. My dog was sprayed almost a week ago [&o] and he stunk. The poor little guy just layed in the corner. I tryed tomato juice, the skunk stuff from the vet (which may smell worse than the skunk), and just general bathing. NOTHING WORKED. Anyway I found the stuff on eBay that took the smell of instantly. My house smells SOOOOO much better and we can play again. I bought 2 so I had one on the shelf. Anyway if you want one go to this guy:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150000258436&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 HIGHLY recommended!!

Sound like your making a paper machay volcano erupt. Do you need red food coloring too?

Thankd goodness, none of ours has ever been spray.  However, one time (after I was married) my Dad and brother were quail hunting about 75 miles out of Austin, Tx (where they lived) and the pointer got sprayed.  They were in a station wagon, it was like 40 degrees and they had to ride all the way home with windows down as Lucky had to be inside the car--no place else to put him.   Daddy said he drove with his head half out the window, my brother had his head out the passenger window.

That same brother now has a doxie he inheirtedfrom his daughter and Fritz just has to chase every skunk that comes around and is sprayed every couple of months.  Brother gets so mad and says that "Dumb dog never learns.  At least Lucky never got sprayed again."  After always having birddogs he was not crazy about Sarah leaving Fritz with him, but he has gotten so attached to that little dog.

Our dog trainer swears by using Massengill Douche to remove the skunk smell from dogs.  Though the cashiers at Walgreens may raise an eyebrow or two when you walk up to the counter with a case of it!

    From a wildlife site:

How do I remove skunk smell from my pet?
Massengill Douche is an amazingly effective skunk odor remover - more effective then anything else we have tried. It's quick, easy and works immediately. Wash with Massengill then shampoo and the smell should be gone. It also works on clothes, cars and walls.

A co-worker of mine has a husky that got sprayed.  I told her to try the douche thing and she did but it didn't help.  She tried a whole bunch of things.  Febreeze did the most good.

Jessie hasn't been sprayed by a skunk but I'm afraid it's a matter of time as we have all sorts of critters visit our yard and she takes them on; she was shaking a possum Friday and when she put it down it lay motionless. We suspected it was "playing possum" and when we brought her in it scurried away. Raccoons will climb our fence and escape instead of fight but last summer she had an encounter with a ground hog; they're scrappy critters and it bit her on the face a few times; we seperated them by using the hose full force and pulling Jessie away. I'm going to copy the "de-skunk mix" recipe.

Well, It doesn't cost 15 bucks plus 5 bucks shipping. And most households have these items on hand.
