so i'm not sure i really got an answer to my question, about rotating I feed Innova right now but would like to go to Canidae are they good choices? Or are they to close in ingredents to make any difference?

also has anyone heard of or feed Canine Caviar or Artemis?

i would like a third food to rotate with but not sure which one would be best.
for the people that do  rotate what foods do you use?

    Hi,

Canidae is a good food, works for some dogs, others not.  I recommend you keep a notebook for each dog and record the changes of food, results and problems you incur with each food. That way you can remember what foods to rotate to.

    Good luck! :)

In the other thread someone told me canidae and innova are 2 good ones to rotate between.  I don't know what a 3rd would be but I am going to try Canidae in a month or 2 when this bag of Innova is done.  (this is my first big bag of Innova so I am not sure when it will be finished).

Canidae is a very good food (and a good one to rotate w/ Innova b/c of the similar ingredients--although they are also different, so worth rotating).  I also like the Artemis "Freshmix."  I actually considered using that as a rotation when my puppy becomes an adult (the freshmix small breed adult).  Both good companies though!

Gretchen does very well on Artemis. A local company delivers it, which is nice. I am currently feeding Innova, and Gretchen is fine. But I think I won't feed it anymore because it is so high in calories and I can't seem to convince my husband that food does not equal love. :-)

As a side note, I bought Felidae canned for my cats and they won't touch it. So you just never know.

thanks for the help everyone. I have about 50lbs of innova left to finish b4 i start the canidae or artemis.. I found a place pretty close that sells it(artemis).

my cat eats felidae dry but will not eat canned. In fact they wont eat any preimum canned food.  the canned food they will eat is Fancy Feast, and i know yuck but i have an older cat that doesnt eat much at all and this is what she like so i know its not the best but at least she'll eat. does anyone know any other brands that would be better,  i have tried felidae. innova, max, wellness,nb..... they wont eat it.

I sell a lot of Artemis in my store. The price is also the most reasonable of the super premiums  that I carry. The ingredients are really good, and the customers say their picky dogs love it. My dogs eat grain free, so I don't use  it myself.

Thanks,  it really helps that you not only know about the food and sell it, but that you also know first hand it's good because of customer feedback. So it will probably be my 3rd choice for rotating.

You dont show where your from,  so do you mind if  I ask where your store is located?

If your cats like Fancy feast, then stick with it. Petsmart sells a brand called Sophisticat Supreme that is as good as Fancy Feast, or better, because it does not contain menadione. Be sure to get the Supreme and not the regular because the regular stuff is loaded with by-products and undefined meats and fats. Another brand at Petsmart is Authority canned. My picky eater will eat that, too.

PS I'm not against by-products, just not undefined by-products as the main protein source. The other day I watched my cat eat a small rabbit. Ears, feet, and all. Nothing left. So now I don't worry about by-products as much. [:D]

OB dogs. I am going to try again to convince hubby to give Gretchen only two cups of Innova. He has been on a kick about saving money and I think that if Gretchen doesn't act hungry, he'll go for it. We'll see.

Unfortunately with cats, you do have to give them whatever they'll eat.

Byproducts from fresh kill are FAR different thatn byproducts used in processed foods.  In processed foods you have NO clue what the dogs are getting from bag to bag.  That's NOT a good thing.

There is a HUGE difference between HEALTHY by-products and the by-products in commercial pet foods.

HEALTHY by-products are things like liver, kidneys, sweetbreads, tripe, gizzards, heart, lungs.

These are NOT the kinds of 'by-products' found in cheap pet foods. THOSE by-products are things like beaks, feet/hooves, digest, intestines, horns, embryos, tallow, sinew, etc. Also processed grain fragments  and anything else that would otherwise provide no nutritional value or would be considered inedible on it's on face value or are waste products created as a result of processing another product.

The ONLY time a product with by-products is safe to buy is if it distinctly says .. Beef/chicken/lamb/pork  by-products ( ORGAN MEATS ONLY ).  PERIOD. Those are actually HEALTHY, DESIRABLE ingredients. Unfortunately very very few companies choose to use quality by-products and choose WASTE products as their by-products.

Thank you for the info, I checked the food online at petsmart, it doesnt give me ingredents but it does say Authority uses high quality meat proteins and never uses by-products, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.  I know it's no Felidae like the dry they eat but at least this sounds  a lot better. So i will go there today and get it. Thanks again i would of never even looks at it. Now i'll feel a little better when i give it to them.(hopefully)

My hubby likes pickled pigs feet (yuk) and chicken feet and throats (not neck, actual throats) (yuk) are considered a great delicacy in China,  Hubby thinks calf liver and chicken gizzards that I love is Yuk.
