TO Elk smells like cinnamon!

    TO Elk smells like cinnamon!

I just started the boys on the TO Wilderness Elk that took 3 weeks to arrive.  So far, so good, but the food really smells like cinnamon, which isn't at all bad, but is weird, esp. since one would think the salmon in it would give it more of a fishy odor.  Anyhow, I was just curious if anyone else using TO Elk thinks it is cinnamony.   Hey, mine like it; maybe they think it's a big pastry! Actually, canid's like the smell of cinnamon. We used it at the facility that I worked at as an enrichment tool. We would sprinkle some pure ground cinnamon in a small box and the wolves would go crazy for it! They would play with the boxes and rip/shred them all to pieces.
Maybe TO is using the cinnamon as an "attractant" to get them to eat the food. It might not be listed as cinnamon, but maybe it's scientific name. It would be worth a try to check it out!

I didn't think the Elk smelled at all like cinnamon, but I had the 3.3 lb bags, and I wondered how old they were... maybe something changed? Anyway, the Lamb, Barley and Apples really smelled like cinnamon (it is listed in the ingredients).. sure didn't attract my dogs though... I force fed 3 of the 4 lb bags, the other 6 have been sitting in my closet for weeks.

Virtually all of the TO formulas have cinnamon bark as an ingredient.

My dogs LOVE cinnamon! I eat sweet potatoes with cinnamon on them, and they'll do ANYTHING for a lick of that. I make their treats with cinnamon, too. It's got lots of benefits, but I can't list them, LOL.

I've been feeding my dogs the TO Elk and it sure doesn't smell like cinnamon to me. I have the 3.3lb bags though. All of the other formulas smell really good... this smells , well let's say... strange. But the dogs like it so I can't complain. They like all of the formulas. I'm taking it that you have the newer 4# bags ?

Sorry... Jennie this wasn't in response to your post. It was supposed to be a response to Trackman's post.

Yes, I have the 4 lb. bags and they are quite new - 4/07 expiration dates.   And jcatkc is right on - cinnamon bark is an ingredient listed on the bag.  Funny how something so low down on the list can have such a big impact on taste!

I don't know about the Elk, but my sample of  the Southwest Chicken & Herbs smelled like sun-dried tomatoes! lol.
But my bag of TO wild and natural smelled like.....well, let's just say alfalfa and @$$--but Wolfie eats it, so what can I say? [:D]
