The agency admits being behind the curve, while the bulk of the investigation has yet to begin. Also, FDA is investigating an Illinois shipment of rice protein used in human food.

I would just love to know why we think we have to buy any type of food products/additives etc. from China. Do we not live in a country big enough to produce whatever we need food wise?

I have said it before, will say it again--we think we have to support most of the rest of the world. People are losing jobs here that are going overseas where pay is pennies (GREED), We ship tons of food to other countries, but having starving elderly, children, homeless right here. We have doctors going over and "doing good" by doing surgery on children in other countries, or bring them here to do surgery, but have children and elderly here who can't get the care they need. Buy products from these o the countries and pour money into them.

I know it sounds I am not being very charitable here and I do give to church every week, I donate to a couple of orpahanages, to some health research, a couple of children's hospitals, to some dog rescue lances, etc. It is just that when i read about people here in this country having to eat dog food because they can't afford real food, taking their meds only half the time because they can't afford to take them all the time---I get MAD which is past angry.

I do hope they are trying to find those people and do blood and urine tests on them. It will be interesting to see if they have actually been exposed to melamine (from what I understand there is no test to detect it in muscle meat yet - they're working on developing that test).
