FDA; "thousands of hogs may be affected"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Tuesday that "thousands" of U.S. hogs might be affected by the agency's investigation of livestock feed contaminated with melamine.
"I don't have the numbers on that right now but it potentially affects thousands of hogs," Stephen Sundlof, director of the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine, told reporters. "Some of the hog operations were fairly sizable."
Livestock feed that may have been contaminated with ingredients imported from China was sent to hog farms in North and South Carolina, California, New York, Utah and "possibly" Ohio, he said.

How awful! I'm going to have to buying my meat directly from ranchers whom I trust.

That sound you just heard was my head exploding.

I'm taking one of my largest sheep to the butcher next Monday, and I'm going to see if I can get a calf from my friend. I KNOW what she feeds - she uses by products from a local cotton gin, beefed up (so to speak) with soybean meal and a little whole ground corn.

I'm mostly concerned about Ben - he can't eat chicken or grains. Honestly, I'm getting really scared. [

Well at least I'm a vegetarian. My poor carniverous dogs and cats and human friends though! eek!
