testamonial for raw chicken wings!!!!

That's great! It had similarly good results for Teenie, but she ended up breaking a tooth on a Nylabone, and getting a dental, anyways. Her teeth were cleaned just over a year ago, and still look VERY good, for Dachshund teeth.

I think I'm going to have to give this a try.  My 11+ y.o. lab mix just had her check-up last week and the vet said she needed a cleaning.  She's not having any dental problems though and I don't want her to go thru general anesthesia if I don't have to.  I know she'd much prefer frozen chicken wings anyway []

Cathy... i'd definately try it... just monitor to make sure your dog takes time to crunch through and does not gulp. Some find that it helps to hold the wing and let them chew to slow them down at first.

Thanks, I'll take it slow with her.  You're just using the big bag of frozen chicken wings you get at the grocery store right. 

I want to try this with my dogs.....Mine have never had raw so if I give them wings will it cause mud butts?

does the 'being frozen' part have to do with the cleaning as well?  Mine just dont like or will eat raw anything.  any ideas how to get them started on at least wings??

Two of my three just don't like raw either. But....they will knaw on raw knuckle bones as long as there's not much meat or fat on them. It works the same way, perhaps a little slower. I thought two of mine would need dentals this year, but now neither do.

Would frying the wings for just a few seconds in a super-hot pan be enough to get rid of the "raw taste" while still maintaining the integrity/digestibility of the bones?

cakana - I don't buy the frozen bags.. I buy the unfrozen packages and then separate into baggies in threes. I'm sure the frozen bags are fine too so long as they are not cooked, breaded, or have other additives.
cita... Iwould not expose chicken wings to any heat at all... cooked chicken wings have a completely different bone sttructure and are very dangerous, I would not risk it.
Cazzy - how big are your dogs? I've not seen any change in the poop due to the chicken wings though mine seem to have stomachs of steel... I suppose if your dog was very small or if they had sensitive systems it could cause upset til they got used to them but that was not my experience.
I don't know how to get a dog to eat raw frozen wings, mine go bonkers for them when they hear the freezer door open... I freeze b/c first it takes them longer to eat possibly extending the teeth cleaning abilities and also to kill bacteria (it does not kill salmonella as far as I know)

You can lightly saute a wing for a few seconds on each side without cooking the bone at all. I did this last night with a leg quarter - our new dog Gus doesn't quite get the whole raw meat thing and really didn't like the frozen quarters. Just a little carmelization of the outside with a sprinkle of seasoned salt did the trick. He is now a believer. []
