wish I figure out why Louie never wants to eat. The specialist is even stumped. Im done everything.....I wonder how you get a dog stablized when they simply don't want to eat?
I went thru this too. We kept taking her to the vet and they kept trying to tell us it was behavioral. I had a gut feeling that it wasn't, mother dog instinct I guess you could say. I kept pushing for them to take blood, weigh her, ect. I remember the last really bad episode she had lasted a few weeks and she went down to 42 lbs. (She's 51+ now).
Anyway, finally after finding a low white blood cell count they put her on a particular antibiotic that she had never had before. It also had a high probability of not agreeing with her. But, the vet wanted to try it. She only managed to do about 5 days or so before it started making her sick. But, it was long enough to help whatever was going on. She did have a few follow up blood checks. And, after checking several more times and finding the same results decided that she was stable as far as white blood cells. But, also the antibiotic also helped her GI issues. After the side effects of the actual drug wore off, she was a different dog. She ate well, played, etc.
She did and still does remember foods that make her sick.
Has your vet checked your dogs blood counts, etc. recently?
Also, I found during those times that she didn't want to eat her regular meals that letting her eat whatever she'd eat helped too. It's very hard for them to get back eating once they completely stop. So, let him have whatever he feels like it right now to keep him at least eating. Worry about balance, etc all that later.
PS---I also noticed in the other thread that you mentioned you were cooking up meat, gizzards ,veggies, etc. That's great but I think that's going to send this particular dog over the edge. Way too much. You need him on something bland, like rice, meat and supplements. That's what I'm doing until this whole food thing blows over and then I'm going to find a kibble that works and that I feel somewhat confident in feeding.
But, all that variety is not good especially when he's not feeling well.
