I used to use baby food to flavor Emma's bland, liver diet. After a little bit of that, I realized that it'd be a lot cheaper in the long run if I bought a little grinder, and ground up my own fruits and veggies (she needed super low protein). I paid about $10 for my grinder, at Walmart, and it holds 3 cups. I've been using it for 2 1/2 years, with no decline in it's efficiency. It's perfect for making little toppers.
Crock potting is another great idea. My mom has been crockpotting various cuts of meat for her old man, since the recall. Toby is 14, and has never eaten dry food. She used canned on the days she didn't have enough scraps. Now, he's eating balanced (by me[

], I throw in the supplements), crock potted food. Left overnight, boneless meat gets very soft. Add in some veggies and maybe a bit of rice or oatmeal, and let it sit til dinnertime. It's mushy, like canned food, and they LOOOOOVE it!
