    How to switch foods

Hi everyone.  Dweezil is currently on Wellness -- Lamb Super 5mix.  I am considering switching to Natural Balance -- one of the allergy formulas (i think venison is what i would do), because Dweezil spends some time itching her face/ears, and rubbing all over the carpet.  I'm not sure if these are allergic symptoms ...  But also, she is poopin 4 times a day.  I would like to give another food a try.  I know you're supposed to switch GRADUALLY, but I'm wondering how one can just TRY a food out, because ... you can't really gradually switch when you just buy the 8lb bags, can u?  hm.

It is best to switch gradually.  Mix food for at least a week.  Some people try to turn this into a math exam, but really, just use common sense.  The first few days feed mostly Wellness and a little Natural Balance.  Make sure you continue to follow the feeding instruction, as overfeeding can cause tummy upsets too.  The next couple days feed half and half.  And after that feed less and less Wellness and more and more Natural Balance. If she has any constipation or diareah, take away some of the Natural Balance and switch more gradually, over more time.  For some dogs it can take upto a month.

Eagle Pack makes a product called Eagle Pack Holistic Transition.  It is meant to help dogs switch for junk food to holistic food.  But it will help with any transition. [linkhttp://www.eaglepack.com/Pages/HS_Transition.html]http://www.eaglepack.com/Pages/HS_Transition.html[/link]
