    How much Glucosamine/Chondroitin?

How much of this should I give my dog per day? The tablets I have are the 500mg/400mg of glucosamine/chondroitin. I'm just giving it as a supplement. Thanks.

EDIT: Stupid me, I didn't even say what breed and how much he weighs. He's a Golden Retriever and weighs 85 pounds. He looks to be at a healthy weight. He's just a big guy.

500 mg per 50 lbs, so I would give 2 tabs daily for maintenance dose. Give 3 tabs daily for the first 4-6 weeks.

Ooh, this is of much interest to me cause I have two Shelties and have been giving one of them the Vet's Rx Cosequin.  A friend of mine recently told me to start giving both my Shelties Spring Valley brand of glucosamine chondroitin instead. I must admit the Cosequin is so much more expensive.  not sure what to do. If I should continue the Cosequin or switch to the GC and even what dose to give both 27 and under lb dogs.  Thanks!

I personally prefer cosequin because its FDA approved. You can guarrantee you're getting every last milligram you pay for. You can't say that for many other brands of human glucosamine...

I also like the flavored tabs... who wouldn't want to turn medicine into a treat?

Very good point, Misskiwi67. I am really ignorant when it comes to this form of medication. I know my Nikki is slowing down and it is much harder for him to jump up on the bed without the Cosequin.  Many thanks!

P.S. Btw, are you a kiwi from NZ?   My DH spent 3 weeks in NZ and loved it there!

I wish I was from NZ, but I'm not. Kiwi was the name of my first 4-legged pet, an iguana.
