Best dog treats EVER

    Best dog treats EVER

Today, I discovered something new. We have an Asian market, in town. It's only been open for two weeks, so it's a brand new thing. We've never had one before, so my friend and I went to poke around. We found lots of yummy, vegan snacks for ourselves (since Asian cultures don't emphasize dairy like Western cultures do), and the best dog treats EVER.

I bought a 4 oz bag of freeze dried sardines (heads, eyeballs, guts and all!) for $2. They have freeze dried squids, too. The dogs have NEVER looked at a treat with happier eyes. Even my mom's super picky, 13 year old mutt face SCARFED these treats.

I just needed to tell everyone.... Asian markets are apparently the place for dog treats. I'd pay twice that for meaty jerky at the pet store. Good deals.

great idea - I've been hooked on asian markets since living in Manchester UK where there was a huge one and we went for lots of things regularly
We have a very large one here in Raleigh that I'll check out for freeze dried fish
Bugsy thinks fish is the best treat of all and the stinkier the better!

What a great idea!  Everytime I go to the asian market (which is often, seeing as how I live with my boyfriend, his brother and his girlfriend, all of whom are asian), I look at those bags of fish and think "Yuck!  Gross!  Who would eat that?".

And now I know the answer.  CHASE would eat that, gladly.  Thanks for the heads-up!

Curse my hick town for not having an asian market!

Rebecca, since they're freeze dried maybe you could get someone to send you some. [:)] Dried sardines can't weigh very much.

I wish Wolfie liked sardines! [:(]  I tried to give him some regular ones and he wouldn't touch them.  He looves all kinds of meat, but he never will touch any fish product (with exception to fish oil pills, but he takes them whole).  *sigh*

That is a great find though!

They eat them whole?  ... bones and all????

We always have them in our house (need 'em for soup base and about twenty other yummy dishes!) but never even thought about giving it as a treat. Checking the salt content might be a good idea -- some can be quite salty. Yes, you do eat them bones and heads and all. My American DH used to be disgusted, but he had a taste once and now he's hooked [:D]

The bag that I have just has sardines on the ingredients list, and is very low sodium. 31 mg in a 1 ounce serving.

And they crumble easily, so eating the bones isn't a problem, even for my non-bone-eater.
