    what kind of meat

Just out of curiosity, what kind of meat do you put in your dogs homecooked meals?  I use venison most of the time.  Sometimes I use pork (fat cut off).  Is it okay to use steak or beef for beef stew?  Every once in a while I give him rabbit.  I've done duck before, but it is so fatty.  I know red meat is not good for humans if you eat too much of it, but what about dogs?

Red meat is far more nutrient dense than white, so if your dog doesn't have any health issues, red meat is probably better. Venison is red meat, so you're good, there.

I use turkey, chicken, fish, duck, venison, pork, beef, rabbit, and basically whatever I can get my hands on for my dogs' food. This week, I bought pork muscle meat and calf liver for their organs. Last week, they ate fish, and turkey. I use a wide variety of veggies, as well.

A lot depends on your dog.  I avoide beef and pork becaue my dog doesn't do so well on thoes meats.  Beef from what I understand is not good for arthritic dogs.  Pork just makes my dog sick, however, some dogs do fine on pork and beef.

I use Salmon because it is a good source of fish oil and is great for the skin and coat.  I also use Chicken because my dog does best on that.  I would love to use lamb, duck or even rabbit but it's very pricy and harder to find in this area.  My dog is a very high energy, high anxiety dog so for me I'm mostly concerned with what foods compliment my dog's lifestyle, althought I do watch her weight very carefuly.  I use supplements but at the same time I add kibble to her home cooked just to make sure she's getting a well ballenced diet with proper nutrition.  I would eventuly like to make the swich to raw only but have not found a supplier in my price range.  This diet works best for her right now.

I give them quite a lot of variety. A lot of my choices are based on what's on sale.

Mine get fish 3 nights a week--canned salmon or mackeral, fresh caught if I have it.  The other nights it is chickenen stew made with about 5 pounds of chicken thighs, pound of of beef liver  and ground turkey or chicken hearts, plus veggies, any combo of sweet potatoes, apples, green beans, carrots, broccoli, etc.
