    Innova and Constipation

    Hi all,

I feed my dogs Innova Evo kibble along with some Innova canned.  Although no one is straining to go, and they both go every day, I think the food is slightly constipating.  Instead of two good poos a day, we have a number of smaller, ones, always dark and hard.  It makes predicting poos a bit tough.  I've tried adding a little pumpkin, but that didn't work.  My second dog, a six year old, who recently came into the home, arrived with his own food, which when he ate it produced a good size poo first thing in the morning and again after dinner.  Since switching him to our "house" menu, his bm habits have changed.

Should I change them to a different food or try adding some cooked vegies?  Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I'm not sure...just give them a chance to get used to it...mine didn't have any constipation problems on EVO.  But of course, adding veggies certainly won't hurt [:)]

I would tend to believe the body is utilizing more of the nutrients available in the EVO than that of the other foods and this is why you are noticing smaller, firmer "poops". The digestability of the protein is much higher, so you won't get the same texture or quantity of feces. Also, there is no grains in it that tend to decrease digestability, which increases defication.  This is what I notice when I was feeding EVO.
As long as there is no trouble with deficating, I would not be too concerned by it.
I have no idea what to tell you about the "scheduling" of the poops, [:)]
