    dog kibble prices

Just wondering- have you all had the cost of kibble jump this past year? Around hear ALL decent dog food (dry) has jumped about $10.00 - $15.00 for the big bags (30-40 pound sizes).
I currently pay exactly $10.00 more compared to 12 months ago. This seems to be regardless of brand or store. I was wondering why, but I can't get a firm answer. I keep hearing it's the manufacturers, the cost of grain due to drought/floods/Katrina, gas prices, etc.

Right now, I have been buying my parents dog food (for their 11 yr old english cocker), mainly because if it was up to them they would feed him kibbles n bits (lol).  Anyways, since I have been buying the Innova Senior, I noticed that over the course of the past year it had gone up only by about $5 ($40 for a 33# bag vs $35).  Still a raise in price though!

My supplier raised her price about $5.00 because Natura raised THEIR price after Katrina when gas prices went through the roof.

What's weird is the prices of dog food in my area if anything have gone down. (Not by much though), the Canidae I buy went from 36.99 to 34.99 (35 lb bag), this was not long after Hurricane Katrina.

Dog food prices have increased here, but not by much.  Shelby's Venison & Brown Rice food went from $39.99 to $42.99, Canidae went from $30.50 to $32.50, etc.

I run a retail natural supply store and I have seen two things jump over the past year:

    1) Delivery charges from the distributors
    2) yes the cost (wholesale) has jumped up a buck or two per bag as well.

I thought the federal minimum wage was $5.35???? At least that's what is was for the last several years when I was in retail management. Anyway, I guess it's time for it to go up, however, the price of goods will have to rise more to compensate for the higher wages.
