That is scarey.  My Irish Setter use to get into my Mom's purse and get her sugar free gum and chew it---til Mom learned to put her purse out of Boots' reach.    I had never thought about it being dangerous, just annoying that he would chew gum, paper and all.

Fortunately I'm allergic to all artificial sweeteners so the only time it gets in the house is accidentally.  It's gotten very tricky these days - they even put artficial sweetener in stuff that isn't necessarily "diet" stuff now, so they can show fewer calories on the nutritional discloure.

Xylitol is not artificial. It is natural, and it is healthy and fine for humans. It is supposed to be beneficial to prevent tartar buildup. It actually tastes pretty good (as opposed to the FOUL flavor of stevia--UGH), but I won't have any of it around. It almost killed Emma, once.

Becca, what toothpaste do you use???

my wife is allergic to artificial sweetners as well. and you are right they will sometimes sneak them into non diet products. i think there should be bigger labels telling people if there are any artificial sweetners in products.
