I'm wondering how much Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken and Rice to feed my 10.5 month old shepherd mix. He is a bit over 45 lbs and is fairly high energy. The package indicates that for puppies his weight the correct amount is 4 to 5 cups and 1.5 to 2 cups for adults. This seems like a large range and given that Minsk is a month or so off the 12 month mark that he should be eating somewhere in between. We have been feeding 1.5 to 1.75 cups, two times a day (for 3 to 3.5 cups total), but that seems like it might be a lot. I have tried leaving the food down for 20 minutes and then taking it up to get a sense of what his self regulation would dictate, but he is very sporadic in his eating habits. One day he will wolf it all down and be looking for more and then the next he won't touch it. I'm wondering if I am feeding too much so that he gorges for a few days and then stops being hungry for a day or so. I guess I'm looking for a balance here so that he eats all his meals every time. At the same time I want to make sure he is getting his nutritional requirements. Also, I could swear that a few months back the Eagle Pack bag suggested less then the bag indicates now for puppies. Am I just remembering wrong? Anyways, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
