Have you also tried adding a Good pro biotic,or enzyme. It could be with the anti-biotics Ella was on, she may be a bit depleted in good bacteria.

I'm going to get some plain yogurt today, I believe.
I hope she'll eat it. I'm still going to fast her for today, though.
    Let her system clear out.

    Also, update on Ella's poop:
She hasn't eaten since yesterday afternoon between 1-130 pm.
She had a bowel movement this morning that was VERY healthy.
Formed and didn't smear in the grass when I picked it up.
    Good sign!
Yesterday when I fed her, I dampened her kibble with some warm water.

rice really "cures" diarrhea for your dogs? all of my dogs get horrible gas and diarrhea FROM rice. If they'll eat it at all. Course they never really eat grain, and probably have no digestive enzymes in production that can handle grain.

If your dog is getting diarrhea from a food change you hope to stick with (rather than from Aunty Em feeding your dog leftover chinese takeout), I think it's best to NOT fast the dog--fasting will fix a temporary disruption to the diet, but not a diet change. What's going on is the dog isn't currently able to digest the food so it all runs out the other end. If you keep feeding it, the dog's digestive system will adjust. If no change after a few days, you'll probably out of luck and need to try a different food.

But don't you think feeding in smaller meals might help?
It'll be a challenge for me to get her to eat that way, but I think that might help.

I would follow kennel_keeper's advice about the 24 hour fast and then feed smaller meals for a day or 2; she runs a kennel and has used this method successfully many times. Your dog will digest the rice and it will help the diarrhea if you cook it to a mushy consistency as kennel_keeper suggested. I'm glad she had a normal stool this morning and hope they stay that way.

I must have missed something here because if your dogs never really eat grain, then how does rice give them horrible gas and diarrhea?  Was something left out of this statement?

I think rice is probably the most digestable of all grains.  At least for humans.  Both of my boys and all three of my grandkids were started on rice cereal when they started on cereal--peditricians instructions, 4 different ones.  All said basically the same thing--it was the one that was found to cause the leat amount of allergies and was the easiest to digest.

Rice goes right through my Shih Tzu.  I stopped feeding him grain and have had great results.  For some reason, I got the bright idea to add a little rice to his meat one day and it gave him terrible diarrhea.  I could see his undigested rice - it was a mess! (sorry to be so graphic)
