    Puppy food in the UK

Hello everyone, I have a 2kg Beagle dog who is 7 weeks old.

He is on 130g (65g per serving) of Iams twice daily and from reading on here Iam's is not very good and by switching his feed he will be happier and go toilet less (over 6 times a day at present).

If anyone can recommend a suitable food to feed him on which is available in the UK I would much appriciate it.

    Thanks  [:)]

Oh, that's a tuffy. From what I've read on this forum, there are not alot of great dog foods over there. Someone said that Canidae is available in some places, but it is still not easy to find. Can you find Burns, I know it is made is Scottland. Burns is an alright food. Better than Iams. But if you can find Canidae, that would be your best bet.

    Good Luck!

I am in the UK too.  I feed Wainwright's Salmon and Potato Puppy formula, which as far as I know is only available at Pets at Home.  It's not the best food in the world, but it is good.  Ben does amazingly well on it, he has a gleaming coat and healthy stools.

I think it's available in other flavours too....maybe duck?  In any case, it is a healthy food, and better than all the ones I can readily get.  It is quite similar to James Wellbeloved, but in the Wainwright's meat is the first ingredient, which is important.

Hope that helps!  Will offer any other UK-specific advice that I can.

I just read your other thread and then saw this one. I don't live in the UK, but I used to feed Purina and after finding this board, switched to Innova. It was one of the best things I could've done. It's more expensive per bag than Purina was, but overall I spend much less money on her food now then I did before because she eats less. Not because she doesn't like (she loves it), but because the nutrition value/content is much higher in Innova and she gets fuller faster. Purina was basically a filler food. Just garbage and junk.

I hope that by pushing this thread back up to the top, more people will respond to your thread. Good luck with your pup!

Thanks for the replies guys, it is appriciated. We have a local pet warehouse near us, I think I will pop down this weekend and seek their advise. Also I am going down the vets to check him for his second injection so will also ask them, but I find the vets normally try to sell what they stock which I think in mine is Iam's. :(

Science diet is another one vets like to push [:'(]

You dont have a great range in the UK at all [&:]

    Some worth a look are:

    JWB-http://www.wellbeloved.co.uk

    Ardengrange-http://www.ardengrange.com

    Wafcol salmon & potato-http://www.wafcol.co.uk

    Naturediet-http://www.naturediet.co.uk

    Berrimans-http://www.berrimans.net

Technical skin & digest. This is the only decent one of their formula's,the rest are crap.

Burns is ok if you have an overweight dog,and only for short term use IMHO.It is far too low in fat and protein for any normal dog!

Eaglepack and Fromm are also available-http://www.postalpetproducts.co.uk
