If you had to choose...

Yeah....unfortunately he's too smart for his own good, and once he figures out there is kibble in there, he won't eat it

How about an all canned diet? He's a Papillon right, so it wouldn't be too cost prohibitive...

I tried an all canned diet, but it caused him to have consistent diarrhea (the liquidy, smear-all-over-the-butt-hair type stuff [:'(]).  I wish I could do an all canned diet because I like the moisture, higher protein, etc (and cost isn't an issue).  I can give him a little canned once a day and his stools are fine, but that's the best I can do w/o getting the diarrhea.

Oh and of course lots of dogs find Science Diet very palatable.

Jenna, You didn't include EP in your list of "tried" foods [8|] Just curious as to why?

I have one English Toy Spaniel that is super picky too. She will like a dry food for a couple weeks, then won't get near it. The only food she consistently eats, are the raw frozen patties from Nature's Variety. She has solid stools on these, wonderful coat, and has gained some weight. Best of all, she eats them with gusto. For one small dog, it is really not expensive.  Your Papillon sounds just like my English Toy, I would give this a try.

Ewwwww! [:'(] lol Don't blame you for not wanting to deal with that. [;)] Have you  tried something like Natural Balance Duck & Potato canned? Seems like it might not have the same effect.

You know, I guess I never considered it...I just assumed the palatability would be the same as the other premium foods.  I really wish I could get some samples from them, but I they won't send them in the mail and I don't have any pet stores in my area that would have it.  Do you know a way to get samples?  Which formula do you think I should try (the best palatability) if I should do so?

    Jenna,
I have tons of samples and am not THAT far from Chapel Hill (30 minutes or so). If you wanted, I could even mail you some if you were willing to pay shipping (mail charges).  No charge for the samples of course [:D] We are listed on the EP site (store locator) with a zip code of 27258.  Feel free to call or PM  me!

We are just a groomer/boarding facility but are starting to carry premium dog/cat foods. We currently are stocking the Holistic EP's and just started carring limited Natural balance and Innova. We have even thrown around the idea of "distributorships" [:D][:D][:D][:D]

The people at the little pet supply store, here, were telling the that the duck and potato canned food was going over really well, for dogs with sensitive bellies. I had gotten some, to go with Emma's kibble (this was a year or so ago), and was nervous about it. They hadn't had *any* returns on it. Said everybody liked it, and it was selling to the sensitive/allergy crowd, the most.

Bil Jac....since I had good luck with it!

I gotta say THANK GOD mine like what I feed them, not at all picky, and it agrees with them 100%. I have a 3 1/2 year old granddaughter that is a picky eater like that (they did it by allowing her to have what she wanted---slice of bread, canteloup and fries-- instead of eating what was on the table or not eat at all.  But shen I keep her, she eats what I put before her or goes hungry.

Oh, I better back track, Buck doesn't care that much for his Science Diet k/d, but he does eat it by the end of the day.  Hopefull he can go back to his regular food in another 3 weeks.

Out of bil-jac and pro plan i would go with bil-jac...HOWever! If i had a picky dog the first kibble i'de try would be natures variety raw instinct kibble,i think thats what it's called?? The one with sprayed on raw. My friend has a very, very picky peke, the foods she did eat was EVO,natural balance and TO but soon got sick of them after a week or so,but thus far she is still happily eating the NV after a couple of months.

    Try canned Canidae! [:)]

Couldn't loose with buying ONE can. [:D]

My pup just switched to Canidae and I feed him kibble and canned. He has the BEST stools I have ever seen. Another member on here fed her dogs strictly Canidae canned and they had firm stools also. Very palatable too! [&:]

Your friend's dog sounds like my dog. Very picky eater! I wish I could find the receipt to the bag of T.O. I just bought so I could return it and get a bag of Nature's Variety Raw Instincts, because Ella loved the sample that the lady gave us.
