    Brewers Yeast & Garlic??

    HI all.   Just curious do any of you give this to your dogs?  Guy at the pet store says its good for their coats.   They seems to like the pills just wanted to make sure if you dogs have allergies (and yeast infections sometimes in their ears) is this ok to give??? Casey especially since he has frequent ear problems.   I HAve started them on fish oil (with Vitamin E) this week and 2 of the dogs love it and the other just kinda turns up his nose ( casey actually)... Just thought i would ask about the brewers yeast pills.

    I am taking Casey to vet tomorrow and asked that they schedule time to draw blood and check his Thyroid.  He just hasnt been acting right the past few months and not eating well and just doesnt seem to be losing weight even though hes not eating.  Doesnt have the same energy.  I know some of its the heat but this has been going on before it got really hot here.   and hes going on 7 yrs old and just wanted to make sure hes ok.   Going to also take Coal in a few weeks to get the blood drawn and checked too.  He will be 8 in November.  hes doing good though since the HW treatment and his coaT looks awesome since they have been eating that NB Venison & Brown Rice.  And since the pup has been at the house hes really getting a lot more excercise chasing after the pup...

    Sorry for the long Ramble... just worried about Casey!

    have a great weekend!!!

     Sounds like Casey may be hypothyroid; the symptoms are lethargy, lack of appetite, weight gain, skin diseases, and thinning hair coat on the sides; they don't necessarily have all the symptoms.
      Brewer's yeast has B vitamins that are good for the coat but some members think it can cause yeast infections. Here's what Eagle Pack, who puts it in their food, has to say about it;

    Brewers Yeast is an important, natural source of B vitamins.  It contains 16 amino acids, 14 minerals, and 17 vitamins.  It has no relationship to yeast overgrowth.  Yeast/fungus infections are caused by Candida Albicaus, a parasitic, yeast-like fungus that inhabits the intestines, genital tract, mouth, esophagus and throat.  Normally it lives in balance with other bacteria in the body.  Certain conditions cause an imbalance, causing an overgrowth. (Source "Nutrition Almanac, 4th Edition").  It is not considered an allergen by leading canine nutritionists, nor is it on a researched list of ingredients "causing 89% of allergies" ("Small Animal Clinical Nutrition

     I don't know about garlic but a lot of people give it to their dogs. The fish oill is very good for their coats and omega fatty acids are also anti-inflamatory; my vet recommends fish oil. I'm glad to hear Coal is doing well and has recovered from the heartworms. Let us know what you learn about Casey.
