Sounds like Casey may be hypothyroid; the symptoms are lethargy, lack of appetite, weight gain, skin diseases, and thinning hair coat on the sides; they don't necessarily have all the symptoms.
Brewer's yeast has B vitamins that are good for the coat but some members think it can cause yeast infections. Here's what Eagle Pack, who puts it in their food, has to say about it;
Brewers Yeast is an important, natural source of B vitamins. It contains 16 amino acids, 14 minerals, and 17 vitamins. It has no relationship to yeast overgrowth. I don't know about garlic but a lot of people give it to their dogs. The fish oill is very good for their coats and omega fatty acids are also anti-inflamatory; my vet recommends fish oil. I'm glad to hear Coal is doing well and has recovered from the heartworms. Let us know what you learn about Casey.
