What to feed 9wk old pup?

Sorry if this is not in the right place!!

We've just brought Milo home (9wk) old JRT), the breeder was feeding Pedigree Chum Puppy Food. Now it's a long time since I had a puppy (about 12yrs) but I was under the impression that this is not a good thing to feed.

So, I was wondering what should I be feeding Milo (including supplements if any) and how often?

PS The last time I had a puppy Weetabix & milk was fed for breakfast - is that frowned on now?

Congrats on the new puppy! You're right, Pedigree is not a good food. One of the worst actually. You'll want to get on a good quality foodas soon as possible. Brands I recommend are Innova, Canidae, TimberWolf Organics, Natural Balance, etc. You can get these are your local pet food store. You shouldn't have to add any supplements or anything. Although, salmon oil is a good supplement for the coat, if you find he was dry or flaky skin. You should be feeding him 3-4 small meals everyday. You can start feeding him only 2 meals per day one he reaches around the age of 6 months. I've never heard of feeding Weetabix and milk for breakfast. I wouldn't recommend, though. Cow's milk is not good for dogs, since most dogs are lactose intolerant. And Weetabix is just grain and sugar, which is the opposite of what you want to a feed a dog. So I'd give that a no. Well, good luck with Milo!

    What a CUTIE PIE!!!!!

I have a little chihuahua named Milo [:D]

Eagle Pack also makes a great puppy food! It's formulated specially for small and medium breed pups. I have used it with great success with beagle pups.

I feed Maisie Solid Gold it's sold at my Petco. Another good food sold at most petstores is Blue Buffalo.

    What an adorable pup! :)

Foods I would recommend (depends on what stores you have access to):

    Canidae (all life stages)
    Eagle Pack
    Innova
    Natural Balance
    Royal Canin
    Solid Gold
    Blue Buffalo
    California Natural

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but those should start you off in the right direction :)

Cool pup you got there.  Congrats!  I also agree with the above posts.  The above recommended premium foods are much healthier than Pedigree.  I prefer the all life stages types (Canidae and EP Holistic Chicken and Rice are the ones I have experience with) as my pup has done great on them.  I also recommend feeding some canned dog food, too.  Your pup will love it and have an easier time eating and swallowing (not that he wouldn't with dry food only).   Good luck with your pup.

Sounds like Milo and Sarah are not in the US (due to the use of the word "chum" LOL), so Pedigree might be a totally different thing, where they live.

Most dogs are lactose intolerant, so cereal and milk for breakfast could have very messy results.

    Milo is ADORABLE!!!!

I feed my pups eagle pack and some raw chicken wings and beef ribs. My pups start eating beef ribs at six weeks. My three pound, four month old poodle can eat a whole chicken wing in minutes. All my dogs have good breath.

Sarah's in the UK,so wont have any of the foods we have [&:]

    Naturediethttp://www.naturediet.co.uk

    Wafcol salmon&;potatoehttp://www.wafcol.co.uk

    Jameswellbelovedhttp://www.wellbeloved.co.uk

    Ardengrangehttp://www.ardengrange.com

    Berrimanshttp://www.berrimans.net

You also have Nutro and Royal Canin, but have different and worse ingredients than we do! I think because you get it in from France, different customs regs and all.

    http://www.nutro.uk

http://www.royalcanin.co.uk  I would only feed RC as a last resort! The ingredients are terrible[&:]

Naturesmenue, naturesbest i think it is as well as naturediet are all available in PAH and are wet foods.I think Naturediet is the most popular wet food in the UK,it's cooked chicken/tripe mince with veggies.

It's such a shame Britain doesnt have any super premium pet foods [&:] Do you know why this is? I know some people from Britain order pet food from the US,the prices, shipping etc arent too bad at all.I think it would cost more for someone from Canada to order pet food over the net from the US than it does from Britain!

Thanks loads for all your replies!!

I am in the UK and have gone for James Wellbeloved - I phoned the vets to book Milo in for his vaccinations and they recommended it, I also used the feline version for my cats when they were kittens and know it's generally well thought of.

I went to the pet shop today and ended up spending nearly £50 on toys/food/treats/clicker for Milo!!
