    which fruits are good?

Hey all, i'm new here...I have a 9 month old female beagle named Chelsey...I was just wondering..these days, she doesnt eat much with the extreme heat we're getting here in Montreal, but fruits, she'll eat all the time. I've given her bananas, which she looooooves, peaches, apples, watermelon, and today she tasted cantaloup. The only thing is i'm afraid some of the fruits might not be good for dogs.I've heard grapes are bad, but are there any other fruits that we shouldn't give to dogs? Any help will be very much appreciated! Thanx all!!

I might be careful that she doesn't get the seeds from some of the fruit,,,but other then grapes which are very toxic to dogs,,,I have not heard that any other fruit is bad.   My Bubblegum eats all of the fruit that I do,,except grapes...and darn,,, I eat a lot of grapes....I just give her one when I'm done.

Roxie loves bananas, too!  I wondered if it was just her, or if other dogs liked them so much, too!

Yeah, I found out grapes were bad for them ... after Roxie had eaten some.  LOL!

As far as Ive read grapes are the only thing to really avoid. I know apples are included in many holistic dog foods, and Ive read that the tropical fruits such as papayas and mangos are excellent to give them.

Bubblegum LOVES LOVE LOVES bananas too.  But my sons Ollie willl run out of the kitchen if you try to give him a piece.
Both Danes love grapes..and Ollie used to get quite a few from me until I found out it was a no-no!  Thank goodness he is so big,,,I'm sure his system could handle it a bit better than a little dog.

What happened when Roxie ate them?  I have read stories on the Internet but never really  had anyone on a dog forum talke about their experience.

Thanx guys! I forgot to ask about veggies...is it the same? All good for them? Chelsey loves carrots and asparagus. I haven't made her taste any other veggie yet. Thanx!

I use a wide variety of veggies in my dogs homecooked.  The only thing that I'm careful of is spinach and limit that to occassionally....something in it that can cause a problem if they eat too much and I'm sorry but I'm too sleep deprived to remember what the issue is.  When I make stirfry I have to guard my zuchinni and summer squashes more carefully than I guard the meat!  Typically anything is safe on my counters, but I find little noses sneaking around when they smell the zuchinni!  Onion is the only veggie that they can't have, and I do try to limit the higher glycemic veggies.

Nothing bad enough to warrant concern from me, thankfully.  I had gotten a fruit bowl at the grocery store sometime about the 4th of July.  So when I was snacking on it, she looked at me with those typical hungry eyes.  I gave her about 10 grapes, some strawberry chunks, and a slice or two of watermelon.

It was a couple weeks later when Kelly and Glenda advised me not to do it.  And like you said about Bubblegum being big, I think that's why Roxie wasn't affected.  She was over 40 pounds then, so I don't think 10 grapes had much of an effect.  Now she's over 50 pounds and growing ... [:D]  Still, she won't be getting grapes again.

Loki loves any kind of fruit--I've never given him grapes for the obvious reasons. (I think something in grapes will shut down one of their major organs) Odin has been reluctant to try new foods, but he's warming up to the idea. They've eaten strawberries, pineapple, bananas, peaches, pears. I used to steam some extra veggies and mix that in with Loki's kibble, but I've gotten lazy lately. I need to start doing that again, because he really liked it.
