    Update on Baily's weight loss

Baily has been eating Solid Gold Barking at The Moon exclusively since July 8.  I have been adding something different every day...a few carrots (loves them) or perhaps broccoli (loves not so much) or a little ricotta cheese, a raw egg....  So far the scale shows no loss of pounds but visually I can see a loss of fat.  Ribs are easier to feel, has a bit more waist.  He seems to like the food and his stools are normal.  I think we have a winner!!

Tonight Baily got his first Real Meaty Bone.  He's been getting recreational bones for a while and is very much a "chewer".  Today I got him a package of "chiken wing portions"  They look like mini drumsticks.  When I took them out of the fridge he became VERY interested and followed me outside.  There he sat impatiently while I explained that he needed to chew it very carefully.  He gingerly took hold of one end while I held on to the other for the first minute or so.  When I let go he tried to run away with it!  A quick "eheh" stopped him and he laid down and chewed and licked and crunched away.  He loved it .   Thank you all for sharing your knowlege and experience with the rest of us.  I never would have given him raw chicken bones and all if not for what I have learned on idog.

We went fishing recently and watching Baily was by far the best part !!!

Why are you adding so much with his food? The egg is a very high protein, if you read here:

    Ingredients
Salmon Meal | Beef | Potatoes | Potato Protein | Canola Oil | Tomato Pomace | Natural Flavor | Salmon Oil | Choline Chloride | Taurine | Dried Chicory Root | Parsley Flakes | Pumpkin Meal | Almond Oil | Sesame Oil | Yucca Schidigera Extract | Thyme | Blueberries | Cranberries | Carrots | Broccoli | Vitamin E Supplement | Iron Proteinate | Zinc Proteinate | Copper Proteinate | Ferrous Sulfate | Zinc Sulfate | Copper Sulfate | Potassium Iodide | Thiamine Mononitrate | Manganese Proteinate | Manganous Oxide | Ascorbic Acid | Vitamin A Supplement | Biotin | Calcium Panthothenate | Manganese Sulfate | Sodium Selenite | Pyridoxine Hydrochloride | Vitamin B12 Supplement | Riboflavin | Vitamin D Supplement | Folic Acid |

Their are already add tons of veggies, so you don't need to add MORE to his dinner!

Solid Gold is a very HIGH quality & it's add top select dog food in Whole Dog Journal. It's depending on how much Bailey weight try to not give him as much as he thinks he needs. Only give him maybe half the amount you already give him, & try not to feed him a lot of treats & table scape food.

Also I found this site on about Raw diet feeders, I should add I'm sure the raw meat you give him probably high in fat, it's just like eating a big juicy steak, so try not to give him so much.

Thanks.  I think he's pretty cute too.  He had a BLAST fishing.

As for what he's eating,  maybe I should clarify.  The bag suggests.  3 1/4 - 3 1/2 cups a day for a dog 60-80 lbs.  He currently weighs 68 lbs.  If he is getting ONLY dry kibble...I feed him 2 cups a day.   I am not adding all those things at the same time to each meal.  Yesterday for dinner he got 5 baby carrots and a scant cup of kibble.  This morning for breakfast he got one egg and 3/4 cup kibble.  Today for dinner he got part of a chicken wing and 1/2 cup kibble.  That chicken wing was the first RMB he's ever had.  Previous to that he has gotten Nature's Variety frozen medallions occassionally.

If I truly am doing something to harm him...please somebody tell me.  I don't see how adding a few carrots could hurt.  He is losing body fat and gets plenty of excersize.

Absolutely not!!! There's nothing wrong with adding fresh food to his kibble. Fresh food is always better than processed, for so many reasons. I've never been able to make myself feed just dry food, or even just dog food. There's always been something on my dogs' food, even if it was just a smidge of canned. Now, they don't eat dry food (mostly due to Emma's inability to process it), so I'm not always fussing over what goes on top, LOL.

There is nothing wrong with adding fresh foods to supplement a diet even if its a great quality food.  My Bailey gets Innova and I almost ALWAYS add fresh veggies, chicken, mackeral, sardines, raw meat, fruit, a raw egg... and so on.  Not all at the same time of course, but I do add something with each feeding.

I dont know why you feel the way you do about "table scrap food" but its actually very good for them and can be a great addition to any kibble diet.

Bailey is handsome!  Glad you've found a food that works, and Im sure hes darn glad about those chicken quarters!!

I think as long as you're subtracting kibble when you add other things to the food, then it's fine.

Btw, he looks very interested in that fishy!! [:D]

Thanks for the re-assurances...(is that even a word?)   I couldn't stand eating the same thing day in and day out...I imagine he would be bored too.

Baily had SOOOOOOOOOO much fun on the boat.  We actually were afraid he was gonna jump in after the fish, so we tied a long rope to his coller to "reel him in" if he did.  A friend brought her Corgi along too and both were really intereseted in the sunfish but when we caught a bass...they were not so brave.  [:D]

I hope youre able to get that weight off your big boy! He is precious and he will feel so much better when he can run after mommy easily!

I think youre doing a great thing supplementing his diet with fresh foods, now if only Lizzie would eat carrots!
