    Stopped eating while on vacation

    Hey folks,

My poor little guy.  He won't eat his food he's been eating for the past two months or his treats.  We are on vacation and I think the 19 hour car ride threw him for a loop.  He does have an appetite though, as I felt sorry for him yesterday and gave him some leftover steak.  Also last night I bought some canned food which he inhaled.  I really need to keep him on his older food diet as he has a sensitive stomach.  Any suggestions for getting him to eat?  We are currently in a very calm situation, but I'm sure it's still nerve-wracking for a 4 month old pooch. If he doesn't eat by tomorrow afternoon I'm going to cut our vacation short and head home.

    Thanks
    Lee and Feyd

Any time your dog is in a strange situation, there will be so sort of di-stress. This can come out in their appetite, behavior, or in the form of diarrhea or constipation. Unless, your baby has not eaten for several days (more than 3, IMO), I would not worry to much about it. When dogs are "stressed" these are ways of regulating their body systems (dealing with stress). Puppies and older dogs are less able to deal with stress, so unless they seem "sick", don't be too concerned. It will all work out when your vacation is over and your all home and back to normal. I would make one suggestion though, try not to offer many different things to encourage eating. This will only "train" your pup that you will offer better things if s/he doesn't eat. I would only use this as a last resort after several days of not eating and only offer very small amounts as to not upset his sensitive tummy.
